The Plainfield High School District's history goes back to the early 1800s when Plainfield was founded as a small town in what is now western Indiana. In 1885, the district organized into four groups and moved from one building to another - first to a large farmhouse on Main Street and then to the present-day high school buildings on East Green Street. In 1922, Plainfield became a part of the larger West Side School District. In 1969, the Plainfield Township trustees voted to move the high school from its original location on North Center Road in east Plainfield towards Interstate 465. Construction began in 1970, and the new high school opened in 1972. The $27 million project included a new football stadium with seating for 6,000 students and an addition to the gymnasium that doubled as the library/theater complex.
Plainfield, Indiana is a town in Butler County, Indiana, United States. The population was 6,852 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The downtown core of Plainfield is home to the Plainfield Municipal Airport and a number of small businesses and restaurants. The town was platted on September 3, 1827 by Nicholas de Goodrich and James Backus as a farming community named "PlainFIELD". When it was incorporated as a village on January 1, 1873, it had a population of just over 100 residents. In 1900, PlainFIELD became an agricultural township with 478 residents. On July 1, 1907, it became an unincorporated community when the Township disbanded. In 1959-60, PlainFIELD voters passed an ordinance allowing for night basketball games in their municipal center during school times which led to its current nickname "The Hub". A year later they passed another ordinance legalizing betting on sports events within city limits - this time limiting bets to $5 per person per game. This led to what is now one of the most popular forms of entertainment in Plainfield - nightly live horseracing races between two or more teams from neighboring towns that compete for prizes at various tracks located throughout the city blocks (now known as "The Race Course"). In 1984-85 Gary Coleman starred in the successful movie "I'm Not Your Guy" set primarily in and around Indianapolis while filming parts near and inside plainfield's municipally-owned airport; PlainFIELD's zip code (64219) appears prominently throughout both film and real life as one possible location for various urban scenes featuring Coleman's character Christopher Lloyd's car dealership across from IHOP ("Christopher Lloyd's Car Sales") near Keystone Road/US 59W; exterior shots also were used for interior scenes at several other locations including his swimming pool complex off US 5E outside Terre Haute; indoor sets were built for much of 'the interiors' sequences filmed at Anthony Bourdain's restaurant 'Chez Georges'. In 1830, the village of Plainfield was established and had a population of seventy-four people. The first school in Plainfield was built in 1835 and served as a daycare for children until 1860 when it became an public library. On December 1st of that year, the town became incorporated with a population of one hundred fifty-six people. In 1939, the city of Plainfield merged with neighboring Terre Haute to form what is now known as Indianapolis.
Plainfield was first settled in the early 18th century. In 1785, Captain John Marshall founded the town of Plainfield on a tract of land he owned near the present-day city of Indianapolis. The town grew rapidly and by 1800, it had over 100 residents. The area around Plainfield was rich in natural resources, including coal and timber. However, during the late 19th century, plainfield's economy suffered as manufacturing growth left downtown Indianapolis for outlying suburbs. In 1892, Mayor George A. Smith initiated a program to improve public infrastructure in the city center and adjacent areas. This initiative called for construction of a street grid and sidewalks, installation of lights and other infrastructure improvements. These projects were completed between 1893 and 1896 at a cost of $2 million dollars. By 1900, Plainfield had become one of Indianapolis' most thriving neighborhoods with many businesses located along State Street or nearby arterial roads such as Michigan Avenue or Keystone Road. In 1907, Mayor James Kapp established the City Hall Annex building on East Market Street as an office space for City Hall employees who could not live within its boundaries due to property restrictions placed on the original City Hall buildingsite byparametersoftheCity charter which limited mayoral power to enlarge or alter certain portions of downtown Indy (later named Lucas County). The annex served as an interim location until 1928 when Kapp's successor Samuel Sennett moved his Headquarters from Union Station eastward into what is now known as Civic Center Circle (formerly known as Indiana State Fairgrounds) - thereby becoming India
