In 1872, The Indianapolis Journal published an article entitled “A New Ointment for Firearms” which described the then-new product being developed by Dr. John Hennessey. This new product was called “Gunsol” and it consisted of a mixture of olive oil and beeswax combined with alcohol. It was supposed to protect firearms from corrosion and staining during storage or use. In addition, Gunsol was supposed to help prevent water from entering into firearms through the gun's internals and damaging them prematurely. The first Gunsol commercial launch took place on November 3rd, 1872 at The Regency Hotel in Indianapolis. Plainfield is a town in McLean County, Indiana, United States. The population was 3,834 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Plainfield was derived from "Plainfield Township". The first settlers in what is now Plainfield were farmers who moved to the area from other parts of Indiana during the early 1800s. In 1836, two brothers named John and James Clearwater purchased the land that would become Plainfield from a group of Indians. They began to plat out their land and built homes on it until they had a total of 16 homes and 2 barns located on what is now N street between Wabash Avenue and e Harrison avenue. The Clearwaters also erected a schoolhouse which served as the community's first courthouse. In 1840, Andrew McNaught bought some of these same shares in the Clearwater family company and started farming there himself. By 1850, he had developed an extensive farm that included sheep, cattle, pigs and horses; his fields extended west to Terre Haute (now Lafayette) County and east to Seymour (now Goshen). McNaught became one of the most successful farmers in local history by developing large tracts of land- both for wheat production and for corn acreage.. He also became an early advocate for education in this rural community which at that time consisted largely of illiterate tenant farmers with no access to any formal education or training beyond what they learned from their families or neighbors. A few years later, Andrew McNaught's son John married Mary Jackson who came from a prominent family in Terre Haute (now Lafayette) County. From this marriage sprang forth three generations of McNaughts: James M., Andrew J., Sr., Jr., John F.). Of particular interest are James M.'s descendants who still livein Plainfield today as well as his wife Betty Snively McNaught,, daughters Linda Kappes McNaught-Dixon and Kimberly Caldwell Dixon-McNaughts; grandchildren Brian Kappes McNaught-Dixon II; Amanda Caldwell Dixon-McNaughts; Shannon Shirley Dixon-Fowler; Christopher Michael Kappes McNaught-Dixon III.; Kevin Patrick Kappes McNaught-Dixon IV.; Tanisha Ann Sprague Dixon ;and Jason Wayne Sprague Dixon.- all residents of plainFIELD

Plainfield is a town in Hardin County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,541 at the 2010 census. Plainfield became a town in 1859 and was named for theplain field which lay near the town site. The first settler in what is now Plainfield was James H. Goode who arrived on horseback from Kentucky in 1825. He built a cabin on the present-day site of Town Hall in 1827. In 1829, John Witherspoon bought Goode's land and set up a gristmill on it which he named "Witherspoon's Mill" after himself and his brother-in-law, Nicholas Witherspoon. A post office called Plainfield was established at this mill in 1830, and remained open until it closed in 1893. In 1837, Daniel Webster purchased land east of present-day Green Township and founded Websterville thereon. This settlement grew slowly until 1840 when Webster hired four men to clear sixty acres (24 ha) of woodland north of his new village to build him a home; this settlement became known as Websterville proper. The first school building was erected here during this time; it remains today as the only structure still standing within Websterville limits dating back to that era. In 1860, Hardin County was organized into four townships: Green Township, Harper Township, White Township, and plainfield township (now Hardin County). When Harper Township split off from plainfield township upon creation of its own independent municipality in 1899, part of Harper Township - including parts of White Township - merged with plainfield township to form what is now ClearFIELD! In 1907 both Harper Township (including parts of White Township) and ClearFIELD were again dissolved by merger because their populations had reached such high levels that they no longer warranted separate municipalities! Today all that remains within ClearFIELD are its namesake streets - Plainfields Avenue*, Clinton Street*, Elmira Road*, etc.* * All street numbers ending with an ‘*’ are also found within neighboring communities but have not been connected here for clarity sake
