The company went through many changes over the years, including being bought by Remington Arms in 1898, becoming a subsidiary of Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1902, and then again going public in 1907. In 1916, the Plainfield Armory was sold to Colt Firearms Corporation and became part of Colt's American armaments division. In 1935, Colt merged with Browning-Forester Corporation and the Plainfield Armory became part of that company as well. It was purchased by Swiss arms manufacturer Walther AG in 1957 and it is currently owned by German arms company GSG Industries AG.
Plainfield is a small town in the central region of Indiana. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lafayette- Plainfield Township metropolitan area. The first settler in what would become Plainfield was George Stephenson, who arrived in 1788. Today, most residents are descendants of those who founded the town. The name "Plainfield" originated with a grant from King George III to Elijah Priestley in 1786. The early days were difficult for Plainfield because it was located on one end of a long and narrow valley which was home to many Native American nations. But through hard work, ingenuity and determination, the town rose to become one of the leading agricultural towns in Indiana. One of the earliest businesses in Plainfield was a store that operated out of an old log cabin on Cemetery Road from 1810 to 1812. This business became known as Storehouse Hill before being moved to its present location on State Road (now US 24) near current-day Uniontown in 1814. In this same year, Anthony Gresham opened his first grocery store at 126 Wabash Avenue and it would remain open until 1951 when it closed due to闇 fire

Plainfield is a town in and the county seat of Kosciusko County, Indiana, United States. The population was 6,813 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1820 by Gideon Gray and other pioneers who discovered land that would become Kosciusko County. In 1827, the first courthouse was built in Plainfield. In 1868, Plainfield became an incorporated municipality. The town has been governed by a mayor-council form of government since its incorporation. The history of Plainfield begins with Gideon Gray, who discovered land that would become Kosciusko County in 1820. He and others founded what would become Plainfield on November 5, 1820 after walking for several days from points westward across the state line to find new land to settle. The town's name came from General John Knox's famous speech "plain" meaning free from encumbrance or Native American influences (though some believe it may have come from "plain field"). Ground was broken for the first courthouse on October 25 of that year; construction continued until December 1st due to Temperance Act protests by local farmers. On May 11th, 1830, the first election for municipal officers took place in which Councilman George Haney won a majority over Alderman James Davenport with just over 50% of the vote; this event marked the beginning of governance by elected officials as opposed to hereditary elders such asgrandfathers or fathers who had held office before them. In 1867, when Plainfield became an incorporated municipality, it voted to annex one square mile (0.8 km²) of neighboring Goshen into its limits making it one small village within a larger township established two years earlier under law passed at Indianapolis' public meeting during which representatives from Goshen asked for annexation because they saw no future growth potential in their community while Plainfield had already begun to experience rapid growth thanks to burgeoning trade with nearby Kokomo and Morenci settlements due eastward along I-465 corridor). However despite this request by Goshen residents – some still living here today – annexation did not happen until afterwordly referendums were held throughout Kosciusko County regarding establishment of Townships/Cities/Villages & School Districts specific thereto as part of efforts led by then Township Superintendent Amos Kendall & later Congressman Richard M Pulliam himself (& more recently State Senator Tom Vilsack) pursuant to Act 181 (1872), then called "Township Consolidation Bill". This act allowed direct taxation sans representation through Township Boards composed exclusively of citizens subject only to property tax assessment without giving any voice or power whatsoever either locally or statewide towards improving public services within Township boundaries including but not limited to developing Roads & Streets etc., contrary rulings made prior thru acts like 'Square Mile Amendment' voided thereby encouraging continuing sprawl throughout entire Community via 'Revenue Sharing' approach ever since! As mentioned above: Prior Acts voided; however ‘Square Mile Amendment’ still effective insofar as Property Tax Levy goes beyond assessed value - see recent article herein concerning recently approved measure entitling all taxpayers within Municipality regardless assessed value now pay same proportionate share thereof
Plainfield is a town in the U.S. state of Indiana, nestled on the banks of the White River southeast of Indianapolis. The population was 20,819 at the 2010 census. The first white person to settle in this area was Richard Post (1786-1864), who built a cabin on what is now Main Street in 1807. In 1814, Daniel Boone crossed the White River and camped near present-day Plainfield on his trip from Kentucky to Winter Quarters (now Jackson County). In 1827, John Marshall established a small store and post office in what is now Plainfield. Indian Wars followed and by 1830, Plainfield had two stores and one schoolhouse. A sawmill was started around this time and continued until about 1860 when it became too difficult to operate because of bad water conditions. In 1836, James Caldwell settled in Plainfield with his family after leaving West Pointe Township near Indianapolis for unknown reasons. He began business as a merchants tailor before becoming something more along the lines of an insurance agent or banker. In 1840 he married Emma Cowles (1804-1868). They raised six children: Elijah Caldwell (1841-1922), Alma Cowles Caldwell (born 1861), Daniel Cowles Caldwell (1865-1943), James Caldwell III (born 1865), Lillie Cowles Caldwell Bliss (-1959) and Esther Jane Caldwell Slaughter (-1986). It wasn't until 1862 when David Sibley moved into Plainfield from Franklin Township due to overcrowding at home following the Civil War that there really began to be a community develop hereabouts - although there were some sporadic settlements up through that time as people encroached onto other land developments nearby! The first public school opened in 1838 which operated for one year before being closed due to lack of funds but it soon reopened under new management with increased funding! From then on things got better - within just five years or so we had our own courthouse/ jail/ post office/ store all set up side by side! With such good beginnings came steady growth over time culminating with our incorporation as a town in 1912!
