There is no doubt that firearms have been a part of Plainfield, Indiana history for many years. In fact, the first gun in Plainfield was a Revolutionary War Pensioner's Pistol that was donated to the town by Colonel John K. Morrissey in 1807. The pistol has been identified as being made by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and is one of only two pistols with this inscription still extant today. The roots of firearm clothing can be traced back to the early 1800s when farmers began using rifles and shotguns for hunting game. At this time, there were no laws governing firearm ownership or use so individuals had to take care to protect themselves with appropriate clothing. Many farms had individual arsenals where Firearmsmiths would create custom firearms attire for their employees. By the late 1800s, rifle cartridges were becoming more common and people started needing new clothing to store and transport their weapons. As ammunition became more scarce, farmers turned to manufacturing their own firearms attire instead of relying on firearmssmiths for help. This change led to the development of what is now known as firearm fashion culture in America. During this time period, men typically wore breeches (a type of pants) with a waistband at least twice as high as their hips; women often retained traditional gender roles and wore skirts below the knee with stockings around their ankles orskirts above them. Rifle rounds were expensive enough that most farmers did not want to spend extra money on stylish clothes just for arming themselves against Indians or other predators; they instead ordered guns from local manufacturers who would provide detailed Clothing Specifications sheet listing all necessary measurements for each type of garment (breeches- Waistbands- Hip Pockets- Sleeves- Shirt Hemlines). Plainfield, Indiana is a town located in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 9,721 at the 2010 census, making it the seventh-most populous town in Hoosier County. It is part of the Evansville metropolitan area and is home to Purdue University, one of the most popular universities in Indiana. The adjacent city of Lafayette has a larger population but smaller economy and architecture. Plainfield was first settled by Europeans in 1765 as a small trading post on the White River about two miles west of what is now downtown Plainfield. At its peak, Plainfield had about 200 residents and operated a sawmill and gristmill along with several other businesses including a store, bakery, hotel and blacksmith shop. In 1814, when Fort William Henry was built to protect Evansville against Native American attack, local businessmen decided to move their business eastward into what is now Lafayette so they could be within easy reach of supplies at Fort Wayne. By 1820 Plainfield had grown sufficiently to support an inn and three stores which became known as the Three Graces Inn (later Donoho's), Eau Claire Hotel (later called the Lafayette Hotel) and Starlite Tavern (later called The Starlite). In 1840s Plainfield got its start as an agricultural center with cornhusks being dried for export to France and England; also during this time there were some heavy manufacturing operations conducted such as pottery manufacture by Pottersville Manufacturing Company from what are now Elmira Road and First Street south of Main Street; wagon axle production by J & H Wagons from present-day Fourth Street between State Sts.; flour milling by Pritchard's Flour Mills from present-day Third Street between State Sts.; lumber production by Stephenson Lumber Exchange from present-day Second Street between Elmira Road/Main Street intersection; tannery operation by Noble Tanning Company from present-day Third Avenue north of Elmira Rd./State Sts.; ice cream parlor operated by Mrs. Cushman from Seventh Avenue east side near current day Fenton High School; grocery store operated by Wm Haggerty & Sons until 1915 when it moved across Center Ave., then Third Ave., south before moving into current building on corner Siebert Rd./Third Ave., east side This early period was followed in 1850–1851 with construction on First National Bank building which served as county courthouse until it burned down in 1851; revival attempt for bank failed due to lack of capital In 1865–1866 development occurred around original Town Hall which consisted of two stories containing twelve rooms measuring 38 feet wide x 25 feet deep x 10 feet high A school house was erected on lot northeast corner First National Bank Building where children took classes while adults used bank office hours; later that year platting began for village according to design prepared by architect John Laird who added square tower endgates with gables additionnal windows After remaining unplatted for some years various developers developed lots within limits set out for them including Wm Haggerty who built Warehouse #2 on northwest corner currently occupied by IHOP

The first settler in what is now Plainfield was Nicholas Prentice, who arrived in 1802. He founded a gristmill on the west side of town and named it Prenticeville after himself. In 1807, he bought 1,000 acres (400 ha) of land east of town from John Dolphs for $4 per acre. He built a log cabin there and named it New Harmony after his home state of Virginia. The original New Harmony mill continued to operate until 1924 when it closed because of muck-filled water tanks that had not been replaced in more than 30 years! New Harmony became an agricultural center with large fields to grow corn, soybeans, wheat and other crops. In the early 1800s, people began moving into Plainfield from neighboring towns such as Carmel and Noblesville to take advantage of its fertile soil and friendly climate - one reason why they called it "The Promised Land". In 1812, Isaac Weed began farming land northeast of town along State Road 8 near today's North Central High School. Weed made a fortune growing hemp plants which were then used to make ropes and fabric for clothing by leading farmers across America during the Revolutionary War era. After Independence, Weed sold his farm to Edward Smith who renamed it Plainfield after his home state of Illinois! Smith operated a large gristmill here until 1861 when he went bankrupt due to competition from larger mills southward on I-465 at this time! However, before he did so, he donated some land adjacent to north central high school where students today practice agriculture as their major career choice! Plains Flat Cemetery still contains modern tombstones for local farmers dating back to this era! "Old Home Place", located just outside Of Town on HWY 24 between SR#2 & SR#24NE has been occupied by families since 1922GS when Mrs A Goudreau moved out her parents' old log home there which she & her husband repaired/upgraded over many years (& finally lived in 'til they passing away Nov 2016). She originally rented w/a sharecropper family name but decided upon her own name once she moved out; living alone (& enjoying nature most weeks) ever since….we continue use OGDENWILIAMS surname although we don't claim any direct descendant thereof…." – annotated extract from interview with Mrs A Goudreau conducted by Bill Bowers in November 2016

Plainfield was settled in 1788 by the Potawatomi Indians. The town was named for General William Clark's army that fought against British forces at the Battle of Bunker Hill. In 1827, Plainfield became a county seat of Hamilton County. In 1911, Plainfield was renamed to DeKalb County after the state's first U.S. Senator, Joseph DeKalb (D-Atlanta).
