In recent years idioms such as "honest to goodness" have become widely accepted expressions here which come from the proud history that has made this community one of America's most underrated gems
The Plainfield area was first settled by European colonists in the early 17th century. The area became a part of the British Empire during the period from 1765 to 1815. After being occupied by Native Americans for many years, the area was explored and claimed by France in 1616. In 1754, English colonists founded a small town here, which they named Plainfield after their then-recent victory over the French at Battle of Plaquemine. In 1778, when James K. Polk led an American army against Revolutionary forces in what is now Louisiana, he took advantage of a wagon train that had been routed by French forces marching through this area and halted their planned march all the way to New Orleans. The Battle of Plainsfield resulted in American control of much of central Louisiana and helped solidify America's claim as a leading global power.
