On October 31st of that year, an act were passed by the General Assembly setting up a school board with authority to establish schools throughout Hancock County free for all white children between 6 and 16 years old. By 1850, there were over twenty-five schools open within five miles of Plainfieldtown; this number has continued to grow since then as more and more families moved into the area from surrounding counties including chords (now Porter) , Delaware (now Elkhart), and Hamilton (now Warrick). The early days ofplainFIELDtOWN included lots still being available today on many different streets such as Greenwood avenue which runs from corner to corner just east or west of where Main Street meets US 24E! This street goes back many years before it became known as “PlainFIELDStreet”

Plainfield, Indiana is a town in Hendricks County, Indiana, United States. The population was 5,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The first settler in Plainfield was John Pritchard who came to the land in 1814. In 1824, he married Anna Maria White and they started a farm with six cows and one horse on what is now Delaware Street. In 1830-31, they moved to what is now Illinois Avenue and began trading goods with people living along that route. They also built a flour mill on Delaware Street in 1832 and soon became prosperous due to their trade connections and their own farming capabilities.
In 1840-41, when the US government decided to create a new territory called Indiana as part of its push for westward expansion, it included Plainfield within its boundaries. As a result of this decision, English settlers began arriving in large numbers in Plainfield beginning around this time including James Hargrave (1801-1879), an Mormon leader from Salt Lake City who had come overland through Iowa Territory; his son William Hargrave (1815-93); father George Denny (1792-1868); brother John Ayer (1796-1867); brother Daniel Boone (1799-1844); sister Hannah Boone (1800-64) – all of whom founded farms or towns near where they lived: Brigham Young’s Nauvoo Township east of present day Indianapolis; David Wells’s Springdale Township north of present day Terre Haute; Joseph Smith’s Sharon Springs settlement northeast of Terre Haute; Solomon Price’s Goshen Township southeast of Terre Haute; Jonas Sibley’s Clinton Township northwest of Terre Haute; David Browning’s Westville Settlement southwest of Terre Haute; Isaac Niles’s Coshocton Settlement southwest cornerofTerreHauteTownshipandClinton township.; all within today's Hendricks County.
The first school building was erected behind the current courthouse on what is now Randolph Road in 1836 by Revd Samuel Morse.
By 1850, Plainfield had a population size exceeding 2200 residents and two stores were open while plows were unknown.
One important event that took place during this time period occurred when General Harrison signed an order authorizing military service for Indian Wars which led directly to the founding of the First Regiment American Volunteers Infantry at Plainfield on October 15th 1861 under Captains Nathaniel Banks & Ebenezer Fenton.< br>< br /> On November 3rd 1861 Colonel Jesse Wigglesworth ordered troops into action against Fort Wayne Confederate forces< ref name=" History/Fenton">< ref name=" History/Banks">< ref name="History/Pritchard">
