On July 9th 1830 Pedro de Valdivia discovered Tierra del Fuego while exploring southern Asia during his exploration expedition known as La Expedición Desplazada or El Callao Expedition which ended with his death at Tierra del Fuego on September 25th 1830 A total of 268 Spaniards lost their lives during this expedition including Valdivia who was posthumously given the title Marqués de la Florida for his achievement
