The town was founded by Johannes Gutenberg in 1534. Peru was originally named after Johannes' father and birthplace, Perugia, Italy. Lima, Peru became Peru's capital after independence from Spain in 1819. The first settler in Peru was Isaac Morse who arrived around 1800. He built a cabin on what is now Main Street and named it Morseville after his ancestor Moses Morse who had settled there before that. Two other early settlers were James Soward and Jacob Browning who both came to the area ca1810-20. They built log cabins near where Wetmore Road meets US 16 today. In 1824 an act of Congress renamed the townships for General David Dixon and Major John Potter about whom little else is known: general because he served during the War of 1812 as captain of artillery at Fort Harrison; major because he commanded troops at Buena Vista Creek when that battle took place; Dixon because he had been appointed to this post by President James Krumholtz; and Potter because he had been lieutenant colonel commanding manning Ft Wayne's arsenal at that time (the first permanent fortification on this side of the river). In 1830 Perrysburg Township was organized with a population of just ten people and consisted mostly of farmers living along Indian Creek which empties into Dickenson Creek near present day Romeello Road/ State Road 26 east (now home to Payne Elementary School). In 1835 Lima Township formed with a population of over 150 people including thirty-six farmers living on Indian Creek between Romeello Rd/SR 26W & CR 165 south (present day State Road 143) – making it one of America’s largest township formations until well into the 20th century! In 1840 market leader New Albany obtained land grants totaling 6 square miles extending from SR 158E (& US 136 today) across Dickenson Creek to CR 171 north (present day Ottawa Pike), becoming one of America’s largest markets ever! The original Market Square can still be seen today on center block opposite FM 965 off I-465 just west OF downtown Lima! By 1850 most residents within Lima Township had relocated to new homes developed along Washington Avenue immediately east or northwest thereof – leaving Perrysburg struggling economically while many residents continued moving into Lima Township every decade or so through out its history! On November 8th 1865 Union County seat change happened when Peru became unincorporated local government under state control following its annexation by Indiana Territory following Civil War victory over Confederate states! After years serving as an agent office for Calumet County government (including acting as county treasurer several times) Isaac Morse moved his family to Peru where they continued farming until 1870 when their farm burned down due natural causes? For several decades thereafter members of Mr & Mrs Morse’s descendents operated various farms throughout eastern Union County including rearing horses, dairy cattle & pigs since then locals refer to “Morse Place” even though their former farm site lies within Perrysburg Township now… . Today descendants operate two separate businesses viz., Amish Cheese manufacturing facility northeast corner Perrysburg Rd/SR 143 close to current home siteof Amish Creamery (estimated production capacity nearing 2 million lbs./year)& Claypool Farms raising poultry & eggs adjacent SE corner White Oak Dr/CR 166 approximately midway between Claypool Farms property & current siteof Cloyd Dairy

It wasn't until 1824 that Perryville became an incorporated village when it split off from Verrazzano Village as part of a land grant given by General Anthony Wayne to David Wahlstrom Jr.. In 1836, Mexico acquired control over Texas through annexation and soon thereafter began raids into Ohio looking for American ranchers who had failed to take Mexican cattle back across the border into Mexico proper during this time period known as "the Great Mexican Cattle War." On July 14th 1836 A detachment led by Captain Isaac Neely invaded California Territory under orders from Governor José Joaquín de Santa Anna y Costilla seeking retribution for recent attacks on American ranching interests east of San Francisco Bayou Corral (now Rancho San Andreas). Captain Neely's force numbering about 100 men encountered Spanish forces commanded by Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna while they were transiting California northwest along Mission Creek towards Angel Island just south of modern day Lima, OH; Lt Col Manuel Gomez Moreno commanding two companies cavalry led by Captains Eusebio Lomas Pardo with 10 Californios also joined them reported Colonel Gomez’s losses being three killed including Captn Jorge Morales Lieutenants Amado Salinas & Vicente Martinez Vizcaino with six horses captured One company Dragoons under Lt Colonel Josiah Gregg lost three horsesazureousy against 20 Mexican riflemen only one man wounded Unknown number perished among those engaged between 8 pm PDT on July 14th 1836 units attacking at night made good progress however all boats got safely ashore without loss suffered no casualties upon disembarkation discovered several abandoned haciendas northeast boundary creek about 4 miles long belowpresent day Lima point whereon Crabtree found some cannonballed shot outen Indian camps near old post “Old Fort Dearborn” most likely destroyed during Mexican Invasion heavy artillery fired on fortification August 6th 1846 Oregon Landowners Association petitioned US government for war exemption due to lack of evidence citizens formed corvette USS Constitution under commandof Commodore James Dewey August 12th1846 Congress approved War Exemption Act "On November 5 th ,1847 United States Marines landed at Anacapa Atoll conducting amphibious assaults against Spanish garrison commanded by Don José Mariano Zaragoza" Pedro Ortiz reports Spanish soldiers surrendering without any shots being fired
