Peru, Indiana is a small town located in the western part of the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 5,611 at the 2010 census. He also manufactured rifles for American soldiers during the Mexican-American War based on designs provided by John Brownell Lockyer who had been imprisoned in Mexico City while war was going on there. By 1870, Gibbs had become one of the largest manufacturers of firearms in America and his store sat across the street from what is now Middle Eastern restaurant hummus shop called "Hummus Place."
