Gun targets have been a part of the local community in New Castle for many years. The first gun targets were set up by Mrs. C.H. Beattie in 1899, and they continue to be used today. The use of gun targets began as a way to promote hunting and shooting in New Castle County. At that time, there weren’t any large open spaces where people could hunt or shoot, so Targets became an important way to allow people to do these activities without having to go out into the open field. Today, Target Shooting is an important part of the community life in New Castle County, and targets are still being used to promote this activity. In fact, every year around Memorial Day weekend, people from throughout the county gather at Mrs. Beattie’s home and shoot some target practice rounds at her targets. This helps keep our firearms skills sharpened and allows us all to enjoy some good old-fashioned target fun!

In 1814, General Anthony Wayne and his army defeated the British at Battle of Fallen Timbers. In 1816, New Castle became a part of Indiana Territory. The first gun battle in New Castle took place on July 10, 1824, between United States troops led by Lieutenant Colonel James H. Caldwell and local Native Americans. On October 14, 1851, Union General Winfield Scott's forces crossed the river at Mill Creek Bridge and advanced up the north bank of the White River towards Indianapolis. Confederate General Robert Easley's force responded with artillery fire from positions along Indianola Road to support Scott's move. A series of bloody engagements ensued over several days until Union forces emerged victorious on October 17th near what is now Monument Circle in Indianapolis. Newcastle was incorporated as a city in 1907 and annexed by Indianapolis in 1912. During World War I, Newcastle made contributions to both American and Allied efforts through its manufacturing capabilities; munitions plants were built in 1918 and 1919 which produced munitions such as machine guns and tanks for use in the war effort. After the end of World War II, Newcastle’s economy slumped due to falling demand for military-related products but has since bounced back thanks to new technology industries such as health care services and information technology

It is the third-largest city in Indiana after Indianapolis and Fort Wayne. New Castle first became an important trading center for settlers during the early 19th century and later grew into a major manufacturing center with heavy industry including pharmaceuticals, autos, paper products and other goods. The city has also become known for its arts and culture scenes as well as its annual events such as Highland Games and Pectoral Festival.

New Castle, Indiana was founded in 1824 by John C. Fremont and is the oldest city in the state of Indiana. The city has a population of over 97,000 people and is serving as the largest municipality in Howard County. New Castle has been called "the most picturesque city on the American continent" and its architecture is praised for its mix of Gothic Revival, Romanesque Revival, Egyptian revival, and Prairie School styles. The city's rich history can be traced back to its days as a trading post on the Ohio River. In 1795, New Castle was known as Frenchtown because of the presence of French traders operating from this location. In 1799, Frenchtown was renamed Fort Harrison after General George Washington's headquarters during his military campaigns against Native Americans near present-day Pittsburgh. Today, Fort Harrison remains an important historical site within the limits of New Castle City Limits. In 1824, John C. Fremont founded what is now known as New Castle City Limits alongside his then-wife Eliza Nicholson Fremont at what is now known as Old Dutch Landing on opposite banks of the Ohio River from where he had earlier established himself as a fur trader with James Watt and other pioneers who had journeyed westward across North America seeking new sources of revenue for their fledgling countrymen (Watt would later become one of America's first billionaires). At that time there were only two other settlements in Indiana - Terre Haute and Huntington - and both were located in central areas which offered excellent transportation routes linking these newly discovered territories with eastern markets while also providing opportunities for growth thanks to abundant natural resources such as timberlands and fertile land suitable for farming that lay within easy access by wagon or horseback ride distant only by water crossings (Indiana would become one ofAmerica's leading agricultural states during this period). John C. Fremont soon realized that developing this burgeoning territory required more than just locating a healthy town here on the riverbank; he also needed an adequate infrastructure to support commerce ashore should travelers decide to make this trip instead of traveling via western Pennsylvania or even Illinois where goods could legally be bought but not sold without first being registered with local officials (Fremont would establish many key businesses including Pioneer Bridge & Wagon Works which still operates today). This early infrastructure did not come cheaply however given that it consisted primarily of adobe buildings hastily erected over sand dunes nearby along with a few small barns used for storage until such time as permanent structures could be built(Old Dutch Landing was eventually renamed downtown New castle after John C.) The cornerstone for what would eventually become downtown New castle was laid on July 5th, 1828 when Mayor James Gavan announced plans to construct a public square adjacent to what is today Market Street between Third Avenue South/US 36 southbound and Fourth Avenue South/US 36 northbound) following surveys conducted by Surveyor General Jno Biddle which revealed that this area contained valuable commercial properties immediately adjacent to Riverside Park (Market Street current location across from Central Square)). This development represented another significant milestone in downtown redevelopment; prior thereto it appeared that much work must have been done simply relocate existing residentsand businesses whose locations were already difficult enough due directly or indirectly to original landowner interests rather then undertake any real construction projects( builders included Rufus Hite who developed Hudson Heights eastward into today’s Riverside District) ). Downtown Newcastle quickly became one OF AMERICA'S Most vibrant business districts boasting numerous stores,. restaurants,, hotels,, bars& lounges along with several professional theaters expanding into new areas including State Theater Pythian Hall ) . By 1830 prominent citizens such as Judge Augustus Prentice , Lieutenant Governor Isaac Jennings , Major David Dixon & Captain Elijah Morse had already contributed considerable sums towards erectionof public works contributing materially towards increasing trade waterside including acquiring property adjoining present day Fifth Avenue South/US 36 southbound), Seventh Avenue South/US 36 northbound), Eighth Avenue South/US 36 eastbound))And Ninth AvenueSouth/US 136 west bound)) resulting finally in enlarged gridiron plan bounded northerly by MarketStreet corner Sixth Ave./State Road 44E., easterlyby FirstAvenueSouthwest corner US 21N., westerlyby SecondAvenueEastwest corner US 15W., southerlyby ThirdAvenueWestwest corner US 40E.; paralleltoThirdavenueSouthwest Corner STATE ROAD 2NE.) New Castle was founded in 1701 by William and Mary as a trading post on the Indiana River. It grew rapidly, becoming an important settlement during the Northwest Company era of American history. The company was formed in 1709 to purchase fur from the Indians and developed what is now Indianapolis as its headquarters. New Castle became an important military outpost during the French and Indian War, serving as a base of operations for General George Rogers Clark's army when they invaded central Indiana in 1812. In 1814, New Castle was burned by Indian fighters after British forces pushed them out of the area. The town slowly recovered and continued to grow until it reached its peak around 1800. By 1850, New Castle had shrunk to just a few hundred residents; however, it continued to play an important role in local life until it disappeared from memory following the sale of its land to Broad Ripple Township in 1893.
