On July 10, 1845, voters passed an ordinance creating a municipal corporation under Township form with limits on land purchases and limits on building permits which still remain today - one reason why New Castle has been able to keep its GDP per capita above $30 million since 1974 despite difficult economic times throughout much of that time period!
