New Castle is a city in and the county seat of Delaware County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. New Castle is located on the southern edge of the Hoosier State. It has been a part of Indiana since 1818. The first permanent settler in what is now Delaware County was Nicholas Colvin in 1795. New Castle became an incorporated town on December 15, 1830, by an act of the General Assembly of Indiana. The city is named after George Washington's home state, Virginia. New Castle was founded as a small community on the banks of the White River near where it flows into Lake Michigan. In 1818, when Indiana became a state, New Castle became its capital and largest city. The growth of New Castle led to significant changes in its culture and economy which continue to this day. Newcastle's downtown area features 5 blocks of original brick buildings dating from before 1830 that are still in use today as businesses and government buildings including courthouses, court houses and even a jail! Along with these older buildings are many newer additions such as a new library (opened in 2009), numerous restaurants and light industrial areas that have grown aroundthe old commercial cores over time including areas near Interstate 64 called "Old Main" districts which include some exciting new developments like One Iconic Place mall & office park - bringing muchneeded competition to areas that have been long predominately rural or suburban! Today's most notable resident for their accomplishments within local or statewide politics would be former Congressman Mike Pence who represented Indiana’s 12th District from 2002-2007 before becoming Vice President under George W Bush – he also served two terms as Governor OfIndiana from 2011-2015 making him one of only 2 US governors ever to serve 3 terms! Another notable figure who resided here for many years was Mayor Joe Hogsett who was elected Mayoralty four times – once in 1978 & again in 1984 & 1990! Heavily involved with both business and civic life throughout his career were other mayors such as Abe Beame (1974-1976), Jay Leno (1999-2001) & Tom Buttner (2002-2004)! Additionally current Mayor Pete Buttigieg has made major contributions to community development through his work with Indianapolis' Nonprofit Services Authority (ISA). This authority helps improve access to affordable housing opportunities for families across Indianapolis through grant programs and provides services such as job training/interventions for low income residents

New Castle is a small town in the southern portion of the state of Indiana. It was founded in 1824 by James Robertson, who named it for his father-in-law, Sir Nicholas Newcomen. The original nucleus of the community were local farmers and their families who grazed their livestock on land passed down from their ancestors. Over time, however, New Castle began to assume more commercial significance as a center for trade and commerce with surrounding towns. The first settler in New Castle was John Cooksey, who arrived in 1825. The town grew rapidly due to its location and its strategic importance as a crossroads between two major roadways. By 1830, New Castle had a population of around 200 people and was conducting regular trading sessions with neighboring towns such as Gary and Richmond. In 1835, an act was passed by the General Assembly which designated New Castle as the seat of government for the region including both Randolph County and Putnam County. In addition to its role as the capital of what would become Randolph County, New Castle also became known for its important contributions to agriculture during this period. For example, early settlers developed a system called "row plowing" which allowed them to plow fields even when it snowed or rained; this helped improve yields on crops and help create an infrastructure that made farming possible in remote areas of Indiana. In addition, many residents donated land to support local schools; these include present-day First Baptist Church (founded 1792), Goodspeed School (1868), Presbyterian Church (1796), Christ Episcopal Church (1843), Methodist Episcopal Church (1890) and Union Pacific Railroad Station (1905). During the late 19th century through into the 20th century, New Castle experienced significant growth due to new development along three key transportation corridors: Interstate 40/Upper Michigan Road; State Route 24/Newcastle–Clinton Highway; and I-465/I-65 Corridor East/West Expressway. This growth led to increased traffic congestion on roads leading into town while also creating new opportunities for businesses within walking distance of each other - something that has continued today despite some recent challenges faced by the town such as gentrification trends near colleges located within walking distance of town.) 1) Downtown redevelopment – Between 2009 and 2013 there was significant downtown redevelopment which included new restaurants & bars , retail stores , office space , apartments etc . This caused concern among some longtime residents about how they would be able to keep up with modern day amenities . However overall most residents are happy with how things have turned out . Additionally job growth has been good causing more people moving into downtown since then making it easier for businesses like restauraunts & bars etc .) 2) Growth along I-40 – Recently IHOP opened up shop next door To old Piggly Wiggly restaurant across from Speedway Stadium & adjoining parking lot Resulting in more traffic congestion but overall no negative affects − Traffic can now easily be diverted onto I-40 thru exit 9A instead
