New Albany, Indiana is a town in and the county seat of New Albany County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 9,611 at the 2010 census. It is located on the southern border of Ohio Valley and is bordered by Floyd County to the north, Hendricks County to the east, and Porter County to the south. The name New Albany comes from its location on a small stream called Aliquippa Creek which flowed through what is now downtown New Albany before turning northwest into Tipton Township. The first permanent settler in what would become New Albany was a man named John Crampton who arrived in 1786 along with his family from England. He built a cabin near where he now lives on Aliquippa Creek and named it "Crampton's Ferry." In 1814, surveyor Nicholas French bought land adjacent to present-day downtown New Albany from John Crampton for $1 million dollars which he used as part of his plan to create an agricultural center located between Cincinnati and Indianapolis. In 1824, Daniel Boone came across Indian nations while exploring western Kentucky while traveling through Ohio Valley territory on his way back home from a visit with President James K. Polk during American Civil War II. When Boone learned about this area via satellite phone after leaving Bowling Green Airport early one morning in November 2006, he decided that this was the best place for him to settle down after years of searching throughout much of central Indiana because of its favorable geography: access to markets such as Chicago and Louisville; excellent soils suitable for agriculture; water availability; easy access Interstate 64 (now I-465) and Dayton–Newcastle International Airport.; Asheville Hospital being only three miles away; .
