Munster, Indiana is a small town in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census. Munster is located in the Miami-Dade County metropolitan area and is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Joliet Combined Statistical Area. It lies on the southern edge of Unincorporated Villa Park Township, about northwest of Waukegan and southeast of Normal. Munster was founded as a post office in 1848 by Major General John Totten with name derived from an Irish word meaning "hill country". The first settler was James Fenton who arrived in 1851 and built a cabin on what is now State Road 35W. In 1860, two brothers named Edward and Augustus Kapp built a log cabin on what would become State Road 30 south of present day Munster Township line. They were followed by other settlers until only one family remained until 1907 when developers purchased all remaining land and erected businesses including grocery store, flour mill, chicken coupes restaurant, electric light plant (1890), Masonic Lodge No 3 (1910). The community developed rapidly due to its location near I-94 which connected it to Chicago via Illinois Route 14A. A telephone company had been established in 1909 but failed because wire services were available more cheaply through Illinois Central Railroad mainline service to Chicago than through local phone companies In 1961 Munster became home to Northwestern Bell Telephone Company's research lab for advanced telecommunications studies at their new facility on Northwest Corner Drive where they continued until 1984 when that laboratory moved to nearby Evanston . In 1990 Northrop Grumman Corporation renovated Northwestern Bell Telephone Company Research Laboratory Building which still houses that laboratory today as part of its Technology park
Gun lights first appeared in the early 1800s. At the time, firearms were primarily used for hunting and target shooting. However, some gun owners started using them to signal their friends or families while they were out hunting. As technology improved, so too did the feasibility and usefulness of using gun lights as a signaling device. By 1885, commercial manufacturers had produced lighted pistols that could be aimed with a flashlight attached to the muzzle. This gave shooters an additional means of finding their prey when hunting at night. Gun lights also became more popular during World War I because they allowed soldiers to spot targets from a distance without having to use their pistols which limited their accuracy.
The first use of gun lights in law enforcement was in 1912 when they were used to guide deputies while they were arresting criminals.
Munster is an unincorporated community in McAllen, Texas, United States. It was named after the Munster family, who settled there in 1881. The population was 1,819 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in Munster was Elijah C. Smith, a whitesmith and surveyor from Illinois, who arrived on horseback in 1881. Smith's home still stands today as a historic building within the town limits of Munster. He and his wife Ellen had five children: Wm., Mabel (married to John Aiken), Jesse (married to Laura Sowers), plural Elisha (John) and Addie (all married to other people). Elijah C. Smith died suddenly on April 5th, 1882 while out grazing with his herd of cattle near present-day Red Rocks Road. The first school in Munster was built by Mrs. Fannie Chapman in 1885 on a farm east of the current center of town; it served as a daycare for local children until 1902 when it became known as the First School House; it burned down during World War II but has been rebuilt several times since then including most recently in 2009 as part of the downtown redevelopment project which included new homes and businesses along Red Rocks Road between Broadway Boulevard and Herndon Drive In 1896 Mrs. Anna Leary donated her land to form what is now called "Anna's Field", just south of present-day Anna's Lane with access from Herndon Drive off Broadway Boulevard - this area is known today as "Anna's Park". In 1911 Cimarron Fenton purchased farmland north of town for $5 per acre - this area became known as "Fenton Prairie". On November 26th, 1912 he organized what is now known as the County Fairgrounds Company Limited which leased land east of modern-day Anna's Lane from noted developer Edwin Ladd - this property later became known as "Ladd Park" and remains one of Munster’s most popular tourist attractions today! The fairgrounds company operated shows hayrides cycling rodeos track contests weightlifting etc.; it also ran dances throughout the year for various social events such as potluck dinners overnight campouts picnics etc.. In 1916 HJ Kline bought 3/4 mile south of town from JB Bechtel for $2 per acre which formed what is now known as Kline Heights! From here he began developing much acreage within present-daymunster into large tracts that are still wellrespected by many residents & visitors alike! JM Stroud developed approximately 4 acres adjacent to Kline Heights between 1918 & 1923 for $4 per acre which formed today’s basis for downtownmunster architecture! Continued growth led to increased development pressures within municipal boundaries so on January 1st, 1925 commissioners appointed Amos Ritchie Director Of Public Works effective immediately; this position would later be filled by future Mayor Ray Shuler! On December 15th 1929 Edna Jane Cline married John Purdy at Zion Lutheran Church located southeast corner Main Street & Elm Avenue - they were the first couple everto live together permanently inside city limits!! They would eventually have six more children collectively thru marriage plus 2 adopted kids thru adoption!!! This unions followed years(?) where both partners were working side by side doing whatever jobs or professions resulted their skillset being put towards creating wealth through business momentum only some doors leading back into their home families lives...etc....... Today we can see descendants living all around us & growing up without feeling judged.....MW
