Mooresville is a small town in central Indiana, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Evansville–Fort Wayne metropolitan area. Mooresville is named after George Moore, an early settler. The town was first platted in 1824 and became a village in 1828. The first post office was established in Mooresville on July 10, 1825. The name of the town originated from George Moore, an early settler who purchased land there from David Cook in 1824. According to local legend, when he received the land east of Evansville he said "Mooresville". In 1840, James Hanks founded the Hanks' Book Store and Mill which remain active today as Hanks Books & More. In 1865, John Fenton opened a general store and tavern called Fenton's Corner which continues to operate today as Fenton's Place Mall. In 1886, Samuel Goudreau built a large frame flour mill on the present site of Mooresville High School; this mill still operates today as Goudreau Flour Mills Ltd., one of Mooresville's main businesses. In 1907-1908, $10 million was invested into local business by businessman Wm Crainer in order to create what would become known as "The Cromwell Partnership". This venture saw many advances for MooresVILLE including construction of a new high school (now White River Community High School), development of parks and improved highways through the community with profits being divided among developers/partnership members according to their success rate based upon goals set for each endeavor

Mooresville, Indiana was founded in 1786 by John Moore and his wife Susannah. The town was named for General George Washington. The Moore family operated a flour mill here for many years until it closed in the early 1900s. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson and his army invaded Indiana and burned down the Moore farmhouse as part of their campaign to crush Indian resistance. The event is commemorated with a statue of General Jackson in Mooresville. In 1827, Mooresville became a community under the name of Indianapolis. It declined during the 1830s because of its distance from major population centers and its lack of agricultural potential. However, it regained some popularity after becoming home to two large Peculiar Iron Workshops put up by Gustavus Adolphus Wright in 1839-40. These workshops produced cast iron products that were very popular among American manufacturers during the 1840s and 1850s. In 1854, Mooresville got its own post office, which remained in operation until 1957. During this time, it became an important center for heavy industry due to its location near bothIndianapolis (8 miles away) and Chicago (25 miles away). Many large companies located their facilities here: Eli Lilly & Co., Bethlehem Steel Co., PotashCorp., Ford Motor Company, etcetera. In 1955, when Indianapolis merged with these other cities to form Greater Indianapolis Inc., Mooresville residents voted to become one of its constituent districts within that city limits. The community experienced significant growth during the late 1960s through the 1970s as a result of new industrial development along I-465; however, since then it has seen only modest levels of economic prosperity while continuing to struggle with unemployment rates above 50%. RecentlyMooresville has seen some limited redevelopment providing job training opportunities for local teenagers as well as access to new housing developments but these initiatives have not been able to sufficiently revive or revitalize the town’s economy
In the early 1800s, a group of farmers in Mooresville decided to build a log cabin on their property. The first occupants of the cabin were four men from Kentucky who had come to the area for nature's recreation. The men built the cabin using logs they found on the property. In 1827, John A. Moore, an Indiana farmer, came to Mooresville and purchased the land around the log cabin. He moved his family into the new home and started a small grocery business which he continued until his death in 1890. Mooresville was incorporated as a town in 1903. It grew rapidly during World War I due to its proximity to munitions plants and its role as a supply center for soldiers fighting in Europe. The town experienced some financial hardships during World War II, but it recovered quickly afterthe war ended. Today, Mooresville is one of Hoosier Township’s most vibrant communities with many businesses and cultural events happening each year
