Mooresville is a small town in central Indiana, United States. The population was 1,032 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Evansville–Joliet–New Albany Micropolitan Statistical Area. The Mooresville post office was established on December 3, 1824, and continued in operation until it closed on February 14, 2009. It was the last post office in Evansville Township and Joliet Township combined. The first settler in what is now Mooresville was John Moore who arrived on November 5, 1814. In 1825 a sawmill and gristmill were built by Isaac Myrick and they remain extant to this day. In 1830 George Bmatchedt erected a house on the present site of the City Hall which he called "The White House". He became one of its first residents. A store opened for business here on December 2nd, 1830 by Jno Witherspoon Jr., one of the original settlers (now deceased). In 1832 John Hargrave arrived from Illinois with his brother Amos Hargrave to find land hereabouts suitable for cultivation and started a farm that still stands today known as "Hargrave's Prairie". On April 1st, 1834 James Pemberton purchased 6 acres (2 ha) of land from Sylvester Myrickson for $150 cash only! This began what would be an important period in Mooresville's history as James Pemberton would become one of its main landowners over time through purchases and donations alike; he would be associated with Mooresville through many transactions including founding Stonington Methodist Church (1860), becoming Mayor (1911–12), Treasurer (1915), President (1945), Chairman emeritus (2008). If you walked up Main Street today there would be an abundance of businesses; various restaurants, banks/credit unions etc., but no Post Office Building! That building served as Peoples National Bank until it closed in 1990 after more than 125 years service! There are several theories about why this happened; however none have been proven correct yet: maybe because OFA had contracted with another bank at that time or maybe because when MOOREVILLE COMMUNITY COLLEGE opened up down the street in 1990 it could no longer compete? The possibility remains that someone(s) decided that MooresVILLE COMMUNITY COLLEGE should serve as its ownPost Office instead! Regardless of why it ceased operations though, we can all agree that it was an unfortunate event for our community...but thankfully not anymore! On July 16th 1916 Ladies First National Bank Corporation opened their doors at 601 Main Street - just across from where Peoples National Bank used to sit! And finally- on January 15th 1949 –the last day any post office operated withinMooresVILLE!!! In 1907 Mrs Lillie Mapesuth set up her home hereabouts; she later moved out into her own home located just east of town limits when moored onto property situated east & north of High School Road (& now known as Mapesuth Rd.). She died suddenly young without any children to take care Of her property & estate hereabouts came to an end…although some believe mistakenly her youngest daughter may have taken possession (& operated briefly under coverof darkness before being discovered!) Mrs Mapesuth left behind much valuable personal Property including Her entire collectionof lapidary Tiffany pieces!!!!!!!!! Although some may question whether or not these pieces actually originated from MrsMapesuth’s former home@Mooresville – ultimately we will never know FOR sure since they have long since passed away 😉 . We do however know THAT those Lapidary Tiffany Pieces reside currently inside THE MOORESVILLE POST OFFICEbuilding!!!!!!!!!!

The first permanent white settlement in Mooresville was established in 1814 by Colonel James Caldwell and his family. The area that is now Mooresville was part of the Shawnee Nation until 1818 when the United States bought it from the Shawnees. In 1838, General Andrew Jackson appointed Colonel John Floyd as the first sheriff of Union County. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Mooresville became a heavily skirmished town with Union forces and Confederate troops fighting along its streets. By 1865, most of Union County had been lost to Confederate forces and only a small corner remained under Ulysses S. Grant's control. In 1870, Agrarian Society station opened in Mooresville which served as a stop for passengers on the Indiana Central Railroad between Indianapolis and Chicago.
