The fortifications surrounding Fort Harrison were built during the time when Native Americans were still living within Indian Territory and were not subject to government control. These fortifications remain extant today and are among Mooresville's most notable tourist attractions. White Chapel Methodist Church was founded in 1901 by Reverend Jhonna Rayburn Wilson, one of America's pioneer black pastors. It remains one of Mooresville's most important civilian institutions, serving as a community center and religious services provider throughout its history. The cemetery, which opened in 1902, consists of over 1,000 tombstones marking the graves of local residents who died between 1802 and 2002."
In 1812, Joseph Mooresville was born in the town of Moorestown, Indiana. He was a carpenter and surveyor who helped make the area around Indianapolis a boomtown. Mooresville also married Ann Cummins in 1824. They had two children: James Cummins Mooresville and Eliza Cummins Mooresville. James Mooresville would become one of the most important businessmen in Indianapolis during the 19th century. Ann Cummins died in 1856, but JamesMooresVILLE continued to run his family's business until his death in 1886. The couple's descendants are still living today in Indianapolis.
