Mooresville is a small town in Putnam County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,676 at the 2010 census. Mooresville is the hometown of Tim Tebow and the home of the University of Miami football program. The town was founded in 1827 by General James Moores as a trading post on the Wabash River. It became a village in 1887 and a city in 1907. The first white settler in Mooresville was John Czeisler, who arrived with his family from Pennsylvania on November 11, 1827. He started out as an agriculturalist but soon realized that he could not grow crops alone and so he built himself a sawmill and millstream crushing plant to create river flour for his market town customers. As early as 1828 General James Moores had founded what would become known as "Mooresville." This nameakes its place because General James Moores had been sent by President Andrew Johnson to survey land east of Indianapolis for sale to settlers. After reaching Bloomington Junction on July 10,1828 (the day before Ohio State Fair), General James moored his ship at the wharf there for eight days waiting for mules to bring him supplies necessary for his new outpost - including wagonloads of flour from Holland! In January 1830 Isaac Backus arrived from Ohio with three families; one family took up residence near the present day Post Office while Backus made himself comfortable in farmlands between mines just east of town site where still stands today's old schoolhouse/chamberlain building used by both sexes grades 7-12th grade currently being renovated/renamed “Middle School” also located on Main Street between First Presbyterian Church & Masonic Temple which served grades 7-12th grade until 1992 when Leadership Conference USA moved into their current building across street) From this initial settlement growth continued unabated until October 6th 1830 when word arrived through Captain Lewis Carver that Indiana's Territorial Governor Samuel PIckett had leased property along Wabash River north of Bloomington (now part of Evansburg) within our newly organized Territory limits grants were issued 3-6 months later authorizing 200 acres (approximately now known as East Bluff Road) called Indianropolis adjoining Missouri line surveyed & laid out April 17th 1830 named after Genl James Mooresville namesake other heirs apparent sd Sir John Moore Surveyor under direction Rev David Thompson Planter lots were offered freehold with 5% taxes paid annually mortgagee interest payments began Dec 1st 1830 closed Jan 21st 1831 When patents expired no more grants were issued & rights reverted back to original claimants muchto grinswood reprobates applied saltpetre [sic] [to] blast furnace starting Feb 2nd 1831 finished Apr 29th 1800 It wasn't long before people realized that they needed water too so they dug wells and constructed dams around their homes. One well even reached deep down into hardwood forest! In addition to these water shortages some folks did some pretty creative things like using brickbatts filled with hot tar or waxed paper to stave off invasion by bugs! After years of creating businesses and services there finally came time for Mayor Corbett Sellers Jr./Edwards Bros.,(who would later be elected U.S Congressman from IN 4 times)to take office December 8th 1906 making it only the second time such an event had occurred since putnam county was formed over 100 years ago January 25th 1865

Moosville was first settled in 1814 by a group of Indiana settlers. The town name, chosen by the original founders, is derived from the Moores family, who were among the early pioneers. In 1827, mooresville became an official city and was renamed after General John C. Frémont.
