Mooresville, Indiana is a city in and the county seat of Hendricks County,Indiana, United States. The population was 33,615 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest city by population in Indiana. Mooresville's location on the Wabash River results in a humid climate with average monthly temperatures ranging from 71 to 87 degrees Fahrenheit (21 to 34 degrees Celsius). The first permanent European settlers arrived in 1814 when General James K. Polk sent a party of soldiers under General David Duncan overland from faraway St. Louis to explore what lay between that city and Fort Wayne on the Wabash River. They discovered rich mineral deposits and named their new land "Morseville." The town started as a small village called Oak Grove on the east side of the river near where present-day Mooresville rests on its current site. In 1828, Morseville became an incorporated village with a Post Office under the name of "Morseville." In 1831, it became part of nearby Fort Wayne and was renamed "Mooresville." That year also saw America's first railroad built through central Indiana; it traveled from Chicago downriver to Mooresville via Indianapolis before terminating at Danforth Street in downtown Indianapolis. In 1846,population had reached 10,000 people when two brothers founded what would become known as The Hays Bros Brewery which still stands today adjacent to Interstate 465 near exit 40A off I-465 just outside MooresVILLE

Mooresville is located in the western part of Indiana, about 20 miles west of the city of Indianapolis. The town was founded by John L. Moore in 1834. It became a village in 1875, and a small town in 1911. The population of Mooresville was 10,811 at the 2010 census. John L. Moore had come to Indiana from Massachusetts in 1824 and began cattle ranching on what is now the east side of Mooresville Road. He named his new settlement after himself and his brother-in-law, James Bledsoe, who had settled near present-day Terre Haute, IN several years earlier. In 1830 John L.'s wife died; he never remarried and his death did not affect Mooresville's growth as a community or its name recognition outside of Indiana itself. Moore's cattle were well known for their high quality and long life spans; they continued to be popular until around 1950 when barbed wire fences replaced open range ranching as the dominant form of farming in the area. By 1930 there were only 8 homes left standing on an original blockage including 3 frame houses dating back to 1835 that still stand today along with 2 barns, 4 outbuildings (a blacksmith shop/ forge/ workshop complex & 2 farmstead residences) & 5 water tanks dotting Frankfort Avenue NE which served as both dwellings & industry during much ofMooresville’s early days Moore’s home still stands today on 400th Street NW just off I-465 exit #5 southbound
One of the earliest known inhabitants of Mooresville, Indiana was a party of French colonists who arrived in 1778. The town was founded on the banks of the White River by Captain John Moore and his family. The first store in Mooresville was built by David Henschel in 1811. In 1817, a post office was established in Mooresville and remained in operation until it closed in 1906.
