The Mishawaka Shooting Club was founded in 1906 by nine men. The club enjoyed success at local tournaments and held its first national championship in 1911. On December 3, 1916, the Mishawaka Shooting Club hosted the world’s first indoor rifle competition at the old White County Fairgrounds. This event was a great success and led to the creation of the IPSC World Cup which took place every four years from 1922 to 1936. In 1937, the Mishawaka Shooting Club moved into their own building and began using a modern firing range.
Mishawaka is a village in Vanderburgh County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Mishawaka is part of the Terre Haute–Lafayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. Mishawaka was founded by John and Lavinia (Crawford) Mishawaka on December 12, 1837 as a log cabin community known as "Mishawa". When the Railroad was extended to that location in 1848, Mishawa became the first stop on the line. The name derives from a Miskatonic Indian word meaning "place where there are trees." The village began as an agricultural community with corn and cotton production being its mainstay until about 1920 when electric light curves arrived and changed agriculture forever. At that time, electric power made it possible for Mishawaka to become one of the leading commercial centers in southern Indiana. Today Mishawaka remains an important cultural and social center within the miska zip code area with restaurants, banks and other businesses located throughout downtown while also having access to many recreational opportunities including swimming, fishing and hiking in nearby woods or lakes. Today's Mishawaka is built around its rich history which dates back to 1837 when settlers reached this location after crossing the Ohio River on horseback following what they called a vision of God Almighty. John Mishawaka may have been inspired by reports he had heard about Fort Wayne – then under construction on Lake Michigan – which would soon be famous for its military capabilities due to its strategiclocation at point of entry into Northwestern India for British forces during World War II before becoming home to Ulysses S Grant’s birthplace later that same century. Although Fort Wayne was ultimately unsuccessful in achieving this goal thanks largely to American artillery bombardment during Operation Swarajya (1857), John’s dream eventually came true when his son-in-law James Wagoner took control of land east of townline along with some others who metamorphosed what had once been farmland into what we know today as Downtown Mishawa Park including churches such as First Baptist Church (now Stonington Presbyterian), Masonic Temple & Grange Hall tavern/restaurant complex, Palmer House hotel/motel complex & numerous stores including Pabst Brewing Company., Sears Roebuck & Company., WM Kellogg Co., JCPenney Co., Dress Barn Inc., Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.. A year later another group led by James Wagoner purchased additional land just west of downtown from Mr. Weiland near present day Wellesley Drive which formed what we now call Race Street Corridor between I-465 northbound exit ramp off US 4&I-465 southbound exit ramp off I-465 westbound drive; businesses included: Hartsfield–Jackson Motorsports Warehouse(later Speedway Motorsports Warehouse), PCW machining plant(later Pohlmann Machine Works), Dutch Bros grocery store(later K Mart), Fritsch Bros.(later Little America Inc.).. In 1850, GEO Geo map surveyor George Ewing conducted a topographical survey of much of Vanderburgh County based upon surveys taken earlier by David Whitcomb.. On November 5th 1850 he submitted his final report “Geo Survey Of The Town Of Mishawa In Vanderburgh County Indiana” containing plat thereof dated April 1st 1851 To William Baughman Esqr Attorney at Law For The Township Of Vanderburgh Which Contains 2 Miles Square Most All That Is Notanye With A Lot Reserved For School And Industry…surveyed By George Ewing….the town plat included streets et cetera…..and bordered On The Northeast Side By Lake Michigan This Location Was Still Underwater When Platted….The Village Extended NorthwestwardAlongTheLakeAndOnTheSouthSideByRiverThisLocationWasAfterWaterDied….In1872 slide According to According to data compiled by HistoryLink , historian Reuben Goldfarb has stated that "mishawi" likely derived from two words - Haudenosaunee meaning 'humble' or 'lowly' and awasika meaning 'house'. He goes on to say that according to oral tradition these words were combined together because they sounded like one word -ishameaning 'place where there are trees.' Consequently, mishawi referred not justto a place where timber could be found but alsoto an agricultural community whose produce would include trees grown within sight of settlement." From here it continued downriver towards Terre Haute before turning back upriver towards Warsaw via what is now State Road 465 (today's Slaughter Road). Eventually Highway 465 served both villages separated only by a small stream - still visible today despite extensive development - until it crossed state lines at Mud Creek near Warsaw . Less than three miles separate Sassenach Township from Nishnabegoskee Township across Mud Creek without so much as an interchange until State Road 265 diverged northeastwardweaving through ruralowning Sassenachters onto SR 265A several miles later forming modern day Harmonville .Slaughter Rd continues beyond today’s borders into Nishnabegoskee Twp./Marion Twp./Clinton Twp./Erie Twp./Van Zandt Jr./ Polk City

Mishawaka is located on the north side of Wabash River and east of Lafayette, Indiana. The area that includes Mishawaka was first settled by English settlers in 1795 as part of what is now Vernon Township. In 1827, Mishawaka incorporated as a village and grew rapidly due to its location on the main road between Indianapolis and Chicago. By 1870, Mishawaka had a population of 3,000. The growth in Mishawaka stopped after World War II when many jobs moved to larger cities or were lost due to technology changes. In 2000, Mishawakans voted to allow alcohol sales for local businesses which helped spur economic development and increase tourism in the town. Today, Mishawaka remains an agricultural community with a strong manufacturing presence including several companies that produce electronic products such as Apple Inc., Motorola Inc., Intel Corp., AMD etc
