Mishawaka is a town in LaGrange County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,856 at the 2010 census. Mishawaka is part of the Terre Haute–Indianapolis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Mishawaka was James Braidwood and his family who arrived on July 1, 1824. In 1827 David Beavers settled in what is now Mishawaka. By 1830 a post office had been founded at Mishawaka and by 1833 it had become the county seat of LaGrange County. In 1836 John Prentice established the first store in Mishawaka and named it "Prentice's Store." A Methodist chapel was built in 1840 and known as "Chapel of Hope." In 1850 a sawmill was organized in Mishawaka and began operations; this mill continues to operate today. In 1863 John Tipton founded the first railways in Indiana with track laid throughout La Grange County including Mishawaka. This led to an increase in business for businesses along these tracks which also allowed for more housing development around town as people started purchasing homes closer to their workplaces rather than travelling hours away for goods they could not purchase or carry home with them. The towns growth continued into the 20th century with expansions into new areas such as east side shopping districts such as Mayfair (1912), Business Park (1928), and Addison Heights (1941). These developments brought about increased traffic congestion which led to increased investment around town including $10 million dollars being invested into roads, bridges, water systems, etc., creating one of the most modern cities within Illinois when it merged with Terre Haute-Indianapolis MSA on April 1st 2000

The burning saved Mishawaka from destruction and helped to make it one of the most successful post-war settlements in central Indiana. After the war, Mishawaka continued to grow rapidly and became an important center for agricultural production and trade. In 1907, Mishawaka adopted its current name - Mishawaka Heights - after elevation changes caused by glaciation made much of central Indiana unsuitable for agriculture. Today, Mishawaka is a thriving community with strong cultural ties to its past; businesses continue to thrive based on their focus on innovative technology and marketing strategies that keep residents connected with family and friends online or in person.
