The Martinsville Rifle and Pistol Club, Inc. was founded in 1887 byodus W. Marschall and George H. Hecht with the goal of providing shooting safety equipment for its members. In 1916, the club added a rifle range to its facilities and began offering instruction in rifle target shooting to new members. In 1924, they made the switch to handguns and began teaching pistol target shooting. In 1931, they introduced their first shotgun range which became an annual event until it was discontinued in 2009 due to changes in venue ownership. The Martinsville Rifle & Pistol Club has been host to many national championships including the US Open Championships on three occasions (1929-1931), European Cup Championship on two occasions (1970-1972), and World Match Championship on four occasions (1959-1964). The club also holds private lessons for individuals and groups as well as hosting sanctioned NRA matches at their facility including several State Finals events over the years.

In 1875, insurance company founder John Richardson donated land north of present day Main Street to build what would become Martin's Crossing shopping center that would eventually have over 100 stores including Sears & Roebuck, JCPenney, Macy's, Nordstroms and dozens more regional chains during its heyday in the late 1970s through early1990s whenMartinsville ranked #1 for retail trade within Johnson County according to "The Journal Gazette". In 1912 local builder Willard Beecham erected what became known as Beecham Park after him which includes baseball diamonds (now used by Harrison High School), a football field,, tennis courts,, basketball court,,,, soccer court||||||||||and community pool with an Olympic-sized saltwater slide connector from 1913 until it closed for maintenance in 1984 following multiple floods that year across much of central Indiana due to heavy rains caused by Hurricane Orsonstorming . As most townsfolk knew from earliest days there were settlers downriver near present day Thumser Dam who fished but preferred hunting pike and catfish on Clear Creek () upstream then downstream along Snake Creek () so they named their creek accordingly martin's creek because one or more white men who found good fishing spots thereabouts
