Additionally, despite being one of America's most culturally rich cities at various points in its history (including having a major African American population), Martinsville has never quite managed to achieve widespread success among successive waves of immigrants from different parts of Europe or Asia. In recent years there have been efforts underway to revive some aspects of Martinsville's past while also creating new opportunities for locals and newcomers alike: for example through revitalization projects such as growing local food production or resurrecting lost industries like textiles or metalworking].
