The business thrived until 1826 when it moved to an adjacent building and closed its doors forever. In 1875, James H. Dodd’s business was successful enough that he decided to keep his business open even after moving to Indianapolis. In 1911, Dodd’s son-in-law started trading as Dodd & Sons Gun Cleaning Company and continued providing quality gun cleaning services until 1974. Today, Martinsville’s boast of having one of the most diverse collections of firearms in the Midwest is due in part to the efforts of John Gentry Jr., who founded Gentry Guns Incorporated in 1978. Gentry has been responsible for restoring over 400 firearms including antique weapons and shotguns dating back to 18th century America. His collection is now on display at the nearby Martinsville Museum of Art where it can be viewed daily from 9am to 5pm EST except during major holidays (Christmas, New Year's Eve, Easter).
