The first firearm in Marion, Indiana was a shotgun. It was made by George Dickey and shipped to the town in 1839. The first rifle in Marion was a .36 caliber rifle made by Wm. H. Claybrook and delivered to the town in 1847.
Marion is a small town in central Indiana. The population was 1,500 at the 2010 census. It lies on the banks of the Wabash River, about 15 miles west of Indianapolis. Marion was founded in 1821 by General George Rogers Clark and named for him. The first permanent settler in Marion County was Nicholas Hasson, who arrived in 1827. He built a cabin on the east bank of the Wabash River. By 1830, Hasson had erected a frame courthouse and jail near present-day New Albany. In 1831, he married Mary Ann Willingham and began to cultivate land around his cabin on the west bank of the river. In 1836, General Robert E. Lee stopped at Marion for rest and supplies before moving on to Fort Harrison near Lafayette, Indiana. While there he appointed several commissioners to explore new settlements in Marion County: James Hargrave (1836–41), John Aiken (1841–46), Isaac Knowland (1847–51), and David Goodloe (1852–55). Goodloe submitted survey reports that included land around present-day New Albany; these reports were not acted upon until after his death in 1865. On November 5, 1838, Ohioan James Kapp purchased 3 acres north of present-day New Albany from Nicholas Hasson for $100USD with intent to erect a log cabin as an inn and market place known as "Kapp's Landing". Kapp later renamed it "Marion" after General George Rogers Clark's hometown in Scotland but never opened it until October 2nd 1860 when Colonel John Neely Webb took over command from Major General Nathaniel Lyon during Indian Wars Phase II events leading up to Union victory over Confederate lines at First Bull Run/Gettysburg campaign site - now part of Arlington National Cemetery! It was only open 9 months due to lack of customers however made such an impact that Webb continued operation into 1861 when Union forces besieged Vincennes Jail during operations leading up to winter Siege Of Vincennes event which resulted in loss OF control over much northwest Indiana Territory including Marion County! marriages were performed here also including ones between US officers stationed at Fort Dearborn & local womenfolk during this time

Polk and Franklin D. Roosevelt and a parade down Main Street. The following year, the city council designated May Day as its national holiday. In 1961, Marion merged with neighboring Poseyville to form the current City of Indianapolis. Today, Marion is known for its rich history and vibrant culture which has contributed to its attraction as a center for business and cultural activity; its vast shopping districts; and its many parks including Lake Michigan Park which is home to one of the world's largest beachfronts.
In 1814, the first settlers in Marion County arrived. They were led by a business man, David Ralston, who purchased 640 acres of land on the banks of the White River. He named his new county after his wife and sister-in-law, Marion. The first courthouse was built in 1816, and the first court case was heard in that building.
