Agricultural production played a significant role in both local society and economy for much OFA until World War II when plants were scattered all over North America due to wartime rationing policies. Today there are still many businesses based here that contribute significantly to local economy including agribusinesses such as grain Elevator Inc., Monsanto Company’s Grain Processing division, Weyerhaeuser Co., Scherer Feed & Fertilizer plant etc., among others. Today's residents are Golfers! Many people commute into Indianapolis for work or pleasure while also taking walks around town during their lunchbreaks or before dinner time just like their ancestors did centuries ago! The town of Marion, Indiana is located in the northern tip of the state on the Ohio River. It was founded by General George Rogers Clark in 1812 and grew rapidly due to its location and land value. The town was named after General Marion, who served as a general in the American Revolution. In 1824, Governor Thomas R. Mackey approved a plat for the town of Marion that included 5 square miles (13 km2). In 1830, James K. Polk declared it an open-air market place and opened it to the public. By 1840, there were over 2,000 people living in Mariontown. The population reached 10,000 by 1851 and 20,000 by 1881. The railroad arrived in Marion in 1854 and quickly made the town a center for commerce and transportation. The first station was built at Seventh Street and Washington Avenue. The city of Indianapolis was founded nearby on Decatur Street in 1857 by Colonel John Hennepin; however, Marion soon became more important because of its location on the river bank near water resources and its easy access to transportation links both north and south. In 1860, when Congress passed an act designating Indianapolis as capital of Indiana under President Abraham Lincoln’s administration, Marion became one of several small towns around present-day Indianapolis that received official recognition from central government as part of that city’s growth process. In 1865–1866, when Indian Wars erupted throughout most of Indiana – including parts of what are now Evansville and Dearborn County – much activity took place at what is now downtown Indianapolis centered around Second National Bank which occupied Broad Ripple Square until 1978 when it moved to One Meridian Place near Market Square; this block also includes three branches (north side: First National Bank branch #1 at 15th Street & Meridian Avenue; south side: Citizens State Bank branch #3 at Lafayette Boulevard & Maple Road; west side: Peoples State Bank branch #4 at Elm Grove Road) During this time period there were also several large plantations operated by wealthy white families such as those controlled by Daniel Boone or Elisha Kane across from where downtown Indy now stands
