In 1851, a group of men from the town of Madison in central Indiana decided to start a gun store. They named their business "The Rifleman's Armory". The first handguns were bought there, and the store became known for its firearms. In 1857, The Rifleman's Armory was acquired by George W. Armistead who renamed it the armory and rifle shop of Indianapolis. In 1865, Armistead moved his business to Newport News, Virginia and changed its name to the Virginia Battery Arsenal. Finally in 1868, the armory relocated again (this time to Terre Haute) and became known as the Terre Haute Arsenal. Throughout its history, The Rifleman's Armory has been an important part ofgun culture in Madison and throughout Indiana. It is considered one of the most popular gun stores in America because it sells firearms both new and used. The history of Madison dates back to 1814 when Nicholas Cline founded what would become Madison Township with land he inherited from his father - one mile west of today's crossing on state Road 21 known then as Indian Creek Road. In 1816 Cline organized what would become Kosciusko County under the name "Madison Township". He named his township after James Kappenburg who had settled nearby about 1800 – him being an early settler who had helped create Lafayette Township near Fort Wayne which became the capital of Northwest Michigan Territory following its cession by General Anthony Wayne to Congress on July 4th, 1795 In 1827 James Kappenburg donated 350 acres (140 hectares) along what is now State Road 21 north of today’s crossroads to Nicholas Cline for a new village called “New Town” or “Cookville” –named after him because he provided much funding for its founding– pursuant to Act No. 875 passed by the United States Legislature on August 10th., 1827 Upon donation by James Kappenburg New Town became Jackson Township on March 15th., 1830 Jackson township was renamed Kosciusko County on December 15th., 1830 On January 1st., 1835 Kosciusko County was divided into two townships – Harrisonburg Township eastward along State Road 2nd Ave., including present day Jeffersonville until that same year when it merged into Garrett Township thenceforward Harrisonburg township became part of present day Uniontown . On April 11th., 1840 Uniontown merger into Greencastle . By February 1st,.1848 all townships were abolished except Harrisonburg which continued under federal jurisdiction until 1850 when it reverted back under state control

The style continued into late 19th century times when it was used as part of ladies' fashion parade bonnets. 19th century Confederate army service cap - Made from blue felt with silver threads running through it, this military style cap typically had two large cockades placed on either side of an open faced eagle breast plate and attached with colorful ribbon or lace; also worn beneath a military fatigues shirt under which men might wear civilian clothing such as pants or skirts if they wished so. Hats like this became popular among Confederate soldiers due to their unique styling and practicality when compared to everyday hats offered by other armies during that time period
