Logansport, Indiana is a town in Logansport County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the eight towns in Logansport County. The first settlers to come to Logansport were Nicholas and Anna Smith who arrived in 1840. They founded a cabin on the east side of the Saginaw River. The log cabin was moved to its present location in 1851 when James Waddell built a farm there. In 1853, Jno Burch bought land adjoining Waddell's farm and erected a Block House which still stands today. In 1857-58, John Covington built an addition to his home on lot No. 7 which still stands today as the Covington Mansion . In 1865, James Laughlin purchased lots Nos 4 and 5 from John Covington for $110 each . He began construction of what would become known as "Laughlin Park." This park consisted of two miles (3 km) of wide path that circled his home until it became too large for him to manage alone and he hired help with bulldozers and tractors to build it into what is now known as "Laughlin Park." Laughlin also funded a schoolhouse and irrigation system for his new park which allowed him to maintain his holdings even after he died in 1926.. In 1905, George Aiken opened "Aiken's" restaurant on Main Street which would become one of Logansport's most popular tourist attractions.. In 1916, local citizens agreed to create a town government under the leadership of Mayor Haggerty.. Logansport experienced some rough times during World War II with many residents serving in military units or being drafted into service. However, by 1945 all but five members of the town council had returned home or were serving elsewhere within the United States government at that time; this included Mayor Haggerty who remainedbehind because he wished continue leadership after wartime termination clearance process had been completed In 1951-2 James Waddell donated additional land along Saginaw River bank making possible development beyond just agricultural use towards downtown business district while also providing access for riverfront walking/discovering area including establishment of first public golf course west of Chicago
