Logansport is a town in Logansport County, Indiana, United States. The population was 3,914 at the 2010 census. It is the home of Purdue University and the largest city in Logansport County by population. The first permanent settler in what would become Logansport was Isaac Stephenson in 1814. He named his land "Broad Ripple" after the Broad Ripple Stream that ran through it. In 1819, Stephenson's son-in-law John Marshall moved to what would become Logansport and began trading goods with Indians on the Monon River. He built a log cabin near where he now lives and named it Marshalltown after his father-in-law. During Andrew Jackson's presidency (1837–41), Logansport became an important stop on the National Road and received mail from Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York City, and other major cities along its route. In 1845, Jethro Gibbs arrived from Virginia with his family and erected a small log cabin on Dickenson Creek near present day Lafayette High School for himself and six wife(), children (), grandchildren (), brother(s) (), friends () . By 1850, logging had begun on significant scales here as well as several miles northward to form what is now known as the "Big Timber" region of eastern Indiana. The first sawmill was built about this time by John Fenton and others on Big Timber Run adjacent to today's intersection of State Route 16A (now US 127) south of town center. With continued growth within limits set by local restrictions on building without permits or paying taxes (the so-called "logging brake"), mills were constructed at various locations until 1860 when all but one were destroyed by fire due to overloading; only two survive still extant: One located just east of town at White Sands Lake Resort & Spa while another – also located east of town – resides at Northwoods Resort & Spa today according to their website www2/northwoodsresortandspa/. The last mill closed down in 1906 although some remnants remain including an old water tower still standing which may once have been used for power generation during prohibition era days! Another early industry based upon hemp production which ceased operations around 1912 appears to have been involved with manufacturing belts used by farmers for irrigation purposes! A wagon road leading into town from Lebanon Valley started construction in 1862 but never reached its destination because logs being brought upriver instead caused too much congestion downstream making transportation difficult; bypassing downtown also resulted in less traffic going into town resulting in more business opportunities for locals! This process continues throughout history with various businesses opening up Phoneix Avenue between 1902 & 1907 leading eventually down Main Street into downtown whereupon most activities took place until recent times leaving very little evidence remaining today apart from some outbuildings surrounded by trees outside of modern day city Limits signifying once again how things operated back then ! All told there are well over 100 documented years worth of logged property situated within LogansPort boundaries making it one ofIndiana’s longest continuously logged areas boasting some 5 million board feetRegistering such activity not only helps protect our natural resources but also preserves our history associated with these lands ! Today much like then,Logansport offers residents easy access to everything they need both inside and outside their Town limits while still preserving many unique aspects that make this community special including its rich cultural heritage dating back centuries; world-renowned schools like Purdue University right here next door complete with students attracted annually hereto learn about Science& Technology etc.; thriving economy backed largely by agriculture products exported statewide via Interstate 65; numerous places Of recreation such as Lafayette Park Preserve open year round hosting events such as concerts/pilgrimages/festivals etc.; ample amount of nightlife options available especially considering thisclose proximity to major metropolitan areas like Indianapolis & Chicago etc.; pristine countryside surrounding both towns providing plenty Hunting & Fishing opportunities if desired; current efforts underway to revive both main Streets currently forming Central Business District bringing new life energy back Downtown while continuing essential services provided thereby creating an even better living environment overall !! What could be more perfect than having allof these benefits within walking distance ??? After all why wouldn't we want liveable communities close to everything we enjoy!?

Logansport is a village in Logansport County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,872 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Logansport County. The town was founded in 1834 by John C. Logan and named for him. The first settler in what is now Logansport was James Mclntyre who arrived on July 6, 1824 from Kankakee Township, Illinois. He built a log cabin on the east side of the current town square and named it "Mackinac". In 1830, David Ritchie settled in what is now the west side of town and named it "Ritchieville". In 1834, John C. Logan organized the township of Logansport and laid out a permanent plat of land to house his people within its limits. He chose this name because he had been to Mackinaw City on Lake Michigan where he had seen a log cabin called "Logan's Cabin" which had been used as a stagecoach stop by travelers heading southward through that region. John C.'s son-in-law Daniel Boone also landed at Fort Dearborn on October 14, 1795 while exploring present day Michigan Territory and visited Mackinaw City before continuing south along the Ionia River to Green Bay where he discovered new land that would become Wisconsin later on that year. Upon his return trip upriver there were tales being circulated throughout Northwest Indiana about an Indian chief known as Big Foot who lived near today's Battle Creek and whose great grandson still resided thereabouts according to one source; however other sources claim that this Chief never actually lived anywhere near present day Logansport proper but rather some miles due north near Mount Pleasant which may have been his location during early pioneer era visits to this area! Consequently many early settlers likely visualize today's downtown square or marketplace areas as they did when first settled here over 125 years ago! On November 5th 1840 during Indiana General Election campaign John Dooley ran for office as a Democrat against Whig candidate Elijah Boudreau Jr.. Dooley won 54% of the popular vote against Boudreau’s 46%. The following year on January 7th 1841 Partridge became Acting Sheriff after incumbent Isaac Grimes resigned due to ill health; partridge held office until April 4th when Grimes finally recovered sufficiently so that he could run for reelection unopposed!!! On August 12th 1840 Abraham Lincoln was born in Springfield IL just outside then existing Town of Bloomington IN thus making logansport one of only two places within territorial boundaries (the other being New Salem) both located inside Illinois! Logansports post office began operations on March 12th 1836 under authority granted by state government via act passed December 10th 35 Statutes at Large Chap 1115 entitled: An act providing for Post Office Establishment in certain townships therein etc., with power vested therein... At common election held February 3rd 37[sic], Phebe Woodworth was elected Postal Agent & received term expiring June 30th 1840... After her term expired she was appointed by Govt May 9th 41[sic] Abraham Lincoln took succeeded her... On September 15 [1841] Loyd Witherspoon set off an engine & wagon lot northeast from town square & started Telegraph Line between IndianapolisIN & Jacksonville FL
Logansport was founded in 1818 by James Logan and his brother Nathaniel. The town grew rapidly and soon became an important center of the region. Logansport became a state capital in 1871, and hosted the first meeting of the Indiana General Assembly. The city also hosted the 1907 Indianapolis 500 race.
