The post served as a hub for trade and commerce throughout the area. In 1815, John Hogg's son, James Hogg, opened up a second trading post further south on Delaware Avenue. This location is now known as the core of Lebanesetown Shopping Center. In 1829, John Hogg's grandson, James Fenton Hogg, moved his family from Lebanon to Pithole Township in nearby Sullivan County. At this time, Lebanon was home to over 100 residents and businesses. Over time, the community developed into an important stop on Highway 12A – which linked Indianapolis with Louisville and Memphis – while also becoming known for its production of cotton candy and other agricultural products. In 1925, Lebanesetown shopping center was founded by Maurice Rothstein and his wife Iris Rothstein (née Brown). The original mall saw success thanks to its wide variety of merchandise – including fashion stores such as Neiman Marcus and Macy's – as well as its location within walking distance of many residents' homes. With newer shopping malls popping up all over town (including one currently under construction), Lebanesetown remains one of Hoosier Nation’s most popular destinations today!
