Lawrence, Indiana is a town located in Butler County, Indiana. It was founded in 1827 by the Lewis and Clark Expedition as Fort Dearborn. The town became a part of Lawrence after the Indian Removal Act of 1830. In 1853, it was renamed for General David Dixon Gordon. In 1865, Lawrence became the capital of new Illinois Territory. The population grew to over 20,000 by 1880 when Lawrence incorporated as a city. The city experienced several waves of destructive fire that destroyed over 50% of its buildings and killed more than 100 people between 1886 and 1890. By 1920, the population had decreased to 4,500 due to decline in business and industry; however, Lawrence has since seen significant growth again with an estimated population of 10,000 as of 2000 according to the 2010 census[1]. Production continued until about 1900 when armories closed their doors citing primarily economic reasons though some Surviving Arms Still Manufactures revolvers into 2003[/17][/levelup> During World War II ammunition production increased dramatically thanks largely to strategic bombing raids on Japan which led directlyto mass destruction throughout Hiroshima and Nagasaki including large portions of Osaka,[18] leading NRA members like Mayor Tom Bradley Jr., Congressman Emanuel Celler (D-NY), Senator Harry Byrd Sr., Governor George Ryan et al., allocating millions dollars towards war relief efforts
