Smith, opened his practice in what is now known as the Smith Optics Building on State Street. On July 1, 1907, Lawrence became an official city with jurisdiction over all of Allegany County including parts of neighboring towns such as East Lansing and Warrensburg. In 1892, a camera called the Schneider-Kreuznach Camera was created that could take pictures with a resolution of 1/4000th of a meter. This camera is considered to be one of the first cameras to use an image sensor. In 1901, two members of the Dutch Optical Society developed a new type of lens called an objective lens. This allowed photographers to take pictures with resolutions up to 1/4 mile! In 1912, Nikon began making lenses using this method and it soon became the most popular type of camera in the world. During World War II, optical technology was used extensively in munitions production. For example, image intensifiers were used on artillery shells to make them more visible in flight. The development of radar also helped improve photo reconnaissance during wartime. Since then, advancements in digital photography have again led to increased photographic resolutions and depths of field (a feature that allows objects at different distances from the photographer to be resolved clearly). However, there are still many challenges yet to be overcome in terms of achieving high-resolution images through electronic imaging techniques such as imagery analysis or machine learning
