In 1865 Jno Fenton organized a wagon road from Indianapolis to Fort Wayne bypassingLawrence so that farmers could get their goods directly to market instead of having them transported through Chicago or other markets before being sold back into civilization at an expensive price tag In 1870 David Hackett founded what became known as the Hackett Brewery which still stands today producing craft beer . In 1886 Isaac Newton opened his law office adjacent to his grocery store which remains an important central business district element today . With manufacturing diversifying throughout America during this time period retail stores such as Sears Roebuck & Co., J&B Drug Store etc., began opening up all over town making it easier for people living downtown to buy whatever they needed without going outside their neighborhood
