In 1892, the Lawrence Rifle and Pistol Club was organized in Lawrence, Indiana. The rifle club was composed of men who were interested in shooting pistols. In 1895, the pistol club was also formed in Lawrence. In 1896, both clubs met to form a rifle team for the local interscholastic tournament. The resulting game resulted in a tie that prompted an arbitration trial between the two groups. The trial resulted in the decision by the arbitrator to award the rifle team victory over the pistol team

The history of Lawrence begins with Methodist missionaries who arrived there in 1827 to spread Christianity and help develop trade routes into Indian Territory. The town grew rapidly from its founding until it reached its current size about 1870. Lawrence experienced several important moments during its growth, including becoming an Episcopal diocese (1907) and being named after George Washington (1885). Today, Lawrence remains an attractive community with a rich cultural heritage that includes agricultural production as well as two universities: Purdue University (founded in 1868) and Western Illinois University (founded in 1908).

Lawrence, Indiana is a city in and the county seat of Huntington County, Indiana. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It is located on the National Road system and is part of the Indianapolis–Covington, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lawrence was founded by John Lawrence in 1812 as a small post office called "Nicollet". In 1814, when it became necessary to move his family from Kentucky because of Indian hostilities, John Lawrence built a cabin on what is now I-70 south of downtown Indianapolis. The town rapidly grew around him and soon had a school, store, blacksmith shop and several homes. In 1835, Lawrence became an independent township with its own government. He served as Mayor for three terms before he died in 1851 at age 80 years old. His wife also served as Mayor from 1835 until her death in 1862. Lawrence Township was organized on March 15, 1836 under the name "Huntington" Township but changed its name to "Lawrence" Township on October 1st that year due to confusion over duplicate town names within Huntington County caused by various mapmakers’ errors during that period. On January 3rd 1861 Congress passed Act No 21 which changed all local governments throughout the United States into townships with their own elected officials instead of having each community operate under one individual mayor/Councilmember type system which had been prevalent since pre-Civil War days across most American jurisdictions including Indiana until then. On July 1st 1865 Lawrence township merged into Huntington County after becoming too large to remain separate again while still maintaining some form of selfgovernment through itsown elected officials (township meetings were held every other month instead of annually like now). The city of Indianapolis consolidated with both Clintonville and Fort Wayne following respective Ulysses S Grant's presidential election victory in November 2020 resulting in an increase in economic growth for both cities along Interstate 85 trucking routes connecting them directly while reducing commuting times between these two major metropolitan areas totaling more than 50%. This free flowing commerce brought new residents and businesses edge out older ones who found themselves priced out or unable to open up shop due to restrictive zoning ordinances enacted by prior mayors/Councils who were not prepared for exponential Growth rates they were seeing coming their way...
