Lawrence is a city in and the county seat of Posey County, Indiana, United States. The population was 31,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis– Corydon–Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is located on the east side of the Buckeye River and forms a part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Lawrence was founded by pioneers in 1824 as a small town called North Randall Station on what is now U.S. Route 36 near present-day North Randall Road and South 78th Street. On July 1, 1825, Lawrence became a town charter with a population of only 50 people. In 1828 it became an incorporated village under State law No. 588 granting it all its civil rights without paying an assessment tax to Indiana statehood (then 3 years old). In 1907, when Illinois merged into Indiana, Posey County was included within that new state as well; however, Lawrence retained its independent status until 1912 when it become one of twelve townships in Corydon Township and then Corydon County (of which today's downtown core is but one!) under State law No. 947 abolishing township organization altogether and giving each township full voting rights for both legislative and executive branches with no assessor or other government funding or assistance from either high or low levels of government save for routine maintenance/maintenance tasks such as street cleaning etc., which were performed by select committee appointed by Mayor Whetstone who also served as Township Treasurer and Clerk since Misdemeanor summonses were issued without warrants through this office). With over 100 residents self-managing their own affairs including many elected officials not listed here due to term limits set out in state law – much like our own Mayor Whetstone – things got pretty hectic during those early days! But things have stabilized over time with good governance practices being followed throughout recent municipal elections held every four years thanks to strong support from our citizens & organizations! A Look Back: 2003-2010 Lawrence began rapidly expanding after becoming chartered as a town in 1825 because there was plenty of land available for development given that Posey County had been organized less than two years earlier following Indian Removal policy orchestrated by President James Kappler as part of his Indian removal campaign against Creek Nation leader Andrew Jackson (and others) which had caused widespread violence across central Indiana’s regions culminating in more than 20 dead + several hundred injured plus Hundreds more homes destroyed or damaged − making this region something quite unique during these times! By 1830 they had built up some nice blocks off US 36 where they now live today looking back on that early growth period with mixed emotions because while they are grateful for all that has come since then - including easier access to education & jobs due to suburbanization elsewhere within Indy − there really wasn't anything special about living in rural poseycounty back then 😉 The first post office established in Lawrence was called "North Randall Station" on July 1st 1825 after pioneer Captain John NorthRandall reached this location from Canada vialandstraße west along today’s I-465 corridor just south of I-465 exit 30A/UWL Rd./US 36E & northwest along present day US 36 towards modern day North Randall Road crossing later known at KY 12NJwy concurrent with KY 116NW entering Random Lake Rd.– both records remain standing even though “north randall station” no longer exists physically speaking! So back then folks would actually walk or take wagons down 160+ miles long route ↑↑↑
