Lawrence, Indiana is a small town located in Hendricks County, Indiana. The population was 2,764 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Evansville metropolitan area. In 1819, Lawrence was founded by John Lawrence and his family. The town name derived from an Indian word meaning "a place where trees grow." In 1834, the state of Illinois donated to the township land for a courthouse and schoolhouse. The first building in Lawrence was dedicated on April 15th, 1935. The cornerstone for the new courthouse and school were laid by Mayor J C Kappelmeyer and First Vice President Franklin D Roosevelt with Mrs Eleanor Roosevelt as guest speaker. On December 14th, 1938, the first public high school class graduated from Lawrence High School when it opened its doors to students from neighboring townships in what would be known as “The Time Machine” moment—the first comprehensive high school in Evansville Township. In 1960-1961 (N/A due to lack of data), Lawrence experienced significant turmoil during the American Civil Rights Movement when nine African Americans were arrested on campus after peaceful protests against segregated education within local schools that had been going on for several years prior! This event is well-known throughout history as one of the most dramatic examples of civil unrest at a small town in America during this time period; however nothing has been done about it since then other than histrionics from those who believe that history should suffer no fools! As can be seen from this timeline there have been many important changes taking place withinLawrence over time including: increase in businesses and jobs overpopulation because people cannot find housing or work elsewhere due to annexation into surrounding communities; modest growth since annexation which has outpaced population growth by around 3% each decade since 2000; overall decline in crime rate which is largely attributed to strong law enforcement presence led by Police Chief Rick Hahn who has successfully kept crime rates low despite all recent challenges posed by criminals such as gangs and drugs which have become increasingly popular among young people living near large urban areas such as Indianapolis etc.; modernizing infrastructure with fiber optic cable being installed throughout much of downtown including providing internet access through street lights; increasing use of green roofs/wool insulation/energy efficiency features (such as evaporative cooling) retrofitted homes older than 2006 having achieved compliance with state codes some having even reached LEED platinum certification; increased amount spent on arts & culture along with multiple festivals both year round and during events like Memorial Day Weekend etc.; recent construction projects such as $120 million dollar project announced just last week involving renovation & expansion of two old high schools now home to an NCAA Division I football team (& their practice facilities); extensive bicycle lanes currently being built along much of downtown streets especially near intersections where heavy traffic occurs
