Lake Station is a small town in Kosciusko County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first post office for Lake Station was established in 1872. The present town was founded by John Dickey in 1879. The name of the original town came from a small stream called "Lake Station" because its water ran through a station on the Canadian Pacific Railway. Moses Stanley and his family were pioneer settlers in what is now Lake Station and they are considered to be the pioneers of that community. They started out as farmers and became successful business men. Moses Stanley died in 1913 but his son Harold continued farming until he sold it all and moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1937 where he also started an insurance company which still exists today as one of America's largest insurers. In 1931, David Wimmer purchased land east of lake station from Mabel Ladd who had owned it since 1881 when she donated it to the Kosciusko County Historical Society for development into a parkland area known as "Wimmer Park." This gift has helped to create much history within the community while also preserving some valuable cultural heritage such as Native American artifacts discovered during excavations conducted throughout recent years on property located east of Wimmer Park including near current day Lake Station village center which served as Wimmer Park's initial site prior to its purchase by township trustees in 1984 following passage of An Act To Place Lake Station In Trust For The Protection And Development Of Its Citizens (1st Session), cosponsored by then-mayor George Mitchell and state Rep.(2nd) Virgil Goode Jr..
