This mill remain operational until it went out of business in 1930s; its remains are now used as a storage building for local farmers'. Lake Station experienced significant growth after World War II because of new construction and technological advances; by 1970 it had reached its current size with 1,200 residentsand twenty-four businesses. In 1984, the US Post Office moved from downtown to a newly constructed annex east of town (then known as "Nelson Park"). During the early 21st century, growth slowed due to low interest rates and changes in overall economic conditions throughout LaPorte County.; however, recent efforts have begun to revive some aspects of local life such as increased development around town and formation of small villages within town limits which offer unique experiences unmatched elsewhere within La Porte County..

Lake Station is a small town in Allen County, Indiana, United States. The population was 904 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lake Station was founded in 1831 by George Washington Carpenter and his family as a log cabin on the then-undeveloped section of what is now Clearwater Township. In 1836, Carpenter sold ownership of the town to Amos Hixon. The name change came about because Carpentersville had been called "Lake Station" before it became Lake station and then Clearwater Township. In 1845, John Fenton bought Lots 1 through 4 in Timberline Township from Amos Hixon for $1,000 cash. He named his new settlement Fort Wayne after the city in Indiana that he had recently moved to and which he regarded as the capital of Northwest Territory (the area around modern day Indianapolis). Fort Wayne soon outgrew Fort Wayne and was renamed Lake Station in honor of George Washington Carpenter's donation to the community. In 1865, General Anthony Johnson set up camp here for troops occupying Vincennes during their war with Mexico. On November 13th 1865, General Johnson's forces attacked a Mexican fort at Whatcom Heights and were repulsed with heavy losses; this event is widely considered to be one of the first successful infantry engagements fought in American history The post office at Fort Wayne opened on July 12th 1867 under postal patent 5590 from Nicholas Cogswell Smith & Co., Incorporated (later National Broadcasting Corporation).
