In addition, Lake Station would often serve as a stop on stagecoaches traveling between Terre Haute and Indianapolis; making it an important hub for travelers throughout much of early central Indiana By 1912 most residents had left Lake Station for good because of competition from larger towns closer to Interstate 65 . Today there are only some scattered remains remaining including a small cotton gin and post office that were destroyed in the 1970s when Crawford County consolidated with other counties

Lake Station is a small town in Hancock County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,906 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Terre Haute Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lake Station was founded on December 12, 1827 by John Ladd and his family. The first post office in the community was established on January 8, 1828. John Ladd's father had migrated from Scotland to America in 1793 and started a farm near present-day Westfield. In 1807 John's brother David moved from Liverpool, England to start a farm northeast of Terre Haute with his wife Anna Maria and their five children: James (born October 15, 1800), William (born February 11, 1802), David (born November 2, 1805), Anna Maria (born May 3, 1807), and John Ladd Jr.( born November 4th). In 1830 Samuel Granger bought land east of present-day Lake Station from John Ladd for $1 million dollars. This area would become known as Granger Township. In 1840 George Stephenson built the first steam locomotive in America at nearby Monmouth Junction. After living in Terre Haute for only two years he returned home to build his mill there about 1850 which became known as Stephenson Manufacturing Company until it merged into General Electric Corporation in 1900. The first post office at Lake Station was opened on January 8th by Captain Jenson Atherton with three other pioneers: Solomon Hixon(January 9th), James Capps(January 10th) and Isaac Asbury(January 11th). By 1870 there were only six residents living in this small town of 1,906 people when it lost its status as an agricultural outpost due to railroad construction just south of town along what is now US 31/40A8W7R1M2Z0V3L4 that paralleled the then current route of I-65 traffic lights just north of town limits while Jennings Road still ran east-west through town center bypassing it all but providing access to the new industrial park becoming known as " village" today where most development has occurred since then including recent annexation by neighboringtowns such as Terre Haute
Lake Station was a small station on the Myrick and White rivers in central Indiana. It was founded by John Myrick in 1838, and served as the eastern terminus of the first railroad in Indiana. The original tracks were built from Delaware to Terre Haute, but were abandoned in 1846. Lake Station was then used as a base for Native American scouts during the Black Hawk War. The first post office at Lake Station was established in 1839, and remains open today. In 1861, Lake Station was hit by a tornado that destroyed most of the station buildings. The town re-opened two years later with new buildings and an improved infrastructure. In 1872, local businessman Jeptha Henson purchased the property surrounding Lakeside Cemetery and began developing it into what is now known as North Side Park. In 1925, Lake Station became part of the newly formed city of Terre Haute; however, it continued to serve as its own municipal government until 1974 when it merged with neighboring City of Lebanon to form one consolidated city government which still exists today.
