The La Porte, Indiana Rifle and Pistol Club was formed in 1892. The club enjoyed a long and respected history of shooter protection until the early 1990’s when it disappeared from the scene. This is a story about how one community rallied to support their shooting community and preserve their Shooter Protection History. As we all know, violence has become epidemic in America, with gun deaths topping 30,000 per year. Yet despite this tragedy, there is still so much talk of safety and gun reform without any action taken to protect our shooters. In 1992, NRA member Tom Kline founded the La Porte Shooting Sports Foundation (LPSF) to address these issues. The LPSF collected money from members to create an opportunity for local businesses to provide free muzzleloaders, shotguns and pistols to groups of law enforcement officers who demonstrate respect for personal firearms possession by civilians. This initiative helped save many lives and preserved our Shooter Protection History! Today, the LPSF continues its work by sponsoring range safety clinics for high school students across La Porte County each fall. These clinics teach kids about safe handling of firearms and how to avoid accidents while shooting at various types of targets including golf courses, baseball diamonds and other playgrounds. We hope this program will continue into the future as a way for our community to keep their children safe while participating in athletics or other activities outdoors!

La Porte (formerly La Grange) is a small town in Indiana, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. La Porte is the county seat of LaPorte County. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now La Porte were French traders and missionaries in 1685-86. A post office was established at LaPorte in 1827, and it became a city in 1871 when it merged with other towns in LaPorte County. In 1917, however, it reincorporated as a village after being given its own school board and mayor. The name "La Porte" comes from an Indian word meaning "mouth of the Pee Dee River". The downtown core of La Porte features several large businesses such as Bankers Trust, JCPenney, Sears Roebuck & Co., Ford Motor Company, First National Bank and Cook County Hospital. Other notable businesses include Logistics Park Services Inc., Northwest Corporation/Northwest Lumber Limited Partnership and IHOP House Cafe & Grill restaurants located on Main Street near the river mouth

La Porte, Indiana is a small town in LaPorte County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute metropolitan area. La Porte was founded in 1814 by Joshua Hensley and others as a trading post on the upper Ohio River. In 1827 it became the seat of LaPorte County. The town name has been variously spelled "Lapponee", "Lappanee", and "Lopponee". Its current spelling is thought to be derived from an Indian word meaning "bridge over the river". The first settler in what would become La Porte was Joshua Hensley, who arrived in 1814 from Kentucky with his family. He built a log cabin on the east bank of the river near present-day intersection of State Road 6 and U.S. Route 12 (now National Route 36). The following year he married Eliza Putnam and they set up a home near present-day Main Street and Rte 20 (now State Road 9). By 1800 Lapponee had about 60 people followed by about 100 more by 1830 when railroads reached this area; some industry began here such as flour milling which continued until after World War II when mills closed due to competition from other stateside towns. In 1821 Lapponee became part of LaPorte County formed out of parts of unincorporated Wayne Township and Posey Township west of SR 8 & US 12/16&1827's township site but all 3 were abolished Jan 1 1870 see map opposite page for boundaries In 1840 $5000 donation given by Ebenezer Day led to construction Of courthouse complete with 11 rooms including large jail cells now used as storage building also 2 school buildings remain today one at corner now known as First Congregational Church & one at corner now known as Methodist church . Also Preschool started here Dec 1861 called Green Bank Kindergarten still open today
