In the year 1887, a man named John P. Hennepin entered into an agreement with George Stephenson to build a railroad in La Porte, Indiana. The company had been founded by two men who were looking to sell guns and ammunition to the local farmers. In 1899, the city of La Porte was formed and began to grow. Gun lights became an important part of this growth as they helped people see what was happening around them while on their walks or rides.

La Porte is a small town in La Porte County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,776 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was named after General Andrew Porter who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as governor of Michigan Territory. The first settler in La Porte was Lewis Purdy, who arrived in 1814. He built a log cabin on the west bank of the White River. A post office called LaPorte was established in 1825, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1886, John Husted founded an oil well near present-day LaPorte and began drilling for oil south of town. By 1915, there were over 150 wells operating in this area; however, World War I interfered with production and prices rose so high that many wells were abandoned or closed down. In 1916, Husted sold his interest to JB Hudnutt Jr., who continued to drill for oil until he retired from operations in 1925. Husted's heirs sold their interests to JB Hudnutt Sr., who operated the company until his death in 1961. Then came another family ownership which lasted until 2003 when it passed through inheritance to current owners Brian & Lisa Hudnutt (the Griggsons). During their tenure as owners/operators they have developed several major projects such as expanding capability onsite at their facility by adding an underground storage tanks complex and creating new roads and trails within the community center grounds - making it one of most popular destinations for locals and visitors alike!
La Porte was founded in 1800 by pioneers Isaac LaPorte and John Armstrong. The town grew rapidly due to its natural resources, including lead and zinc mines. La Porte became a major transportation center for the area, with trains running between La Porte and Terre Haute daily. In 1916, La Porte was renamed Indianapolis after General George Washington Carver who had donated land to the city.
