There are many gun barrels history in La Porte, Indiana. The first gun barrel was made in 1792. It was a Revolutionary War Pistol barrel. In 1836, First National Bank of La Porte built the first courthouse in La Porte. The first shotgun was made in 1853. It had a 5-inch barrel and it used shot that came out of cannons called “buckshot” guns. There were also muzzleloading shotguns that were made from 1855 to 1860. In 1906, the LaPorte & Southern Railroad built a line from Terre Haute to LaPorte. This railroad allowed people to buy goods and transport them to Chicago and other cities. This led to the growth of the town of La Porte and its ability to become an economic center for the area

La Porte is a small town in Wayne County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. La Porte is part of the Lafayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settlement in La Porte was made on the banks of the White River by an group of French Canadians on November 3, 1814. By 1825, LaPorte had a post office and two churches. In 1830, four land grantees named John Wirtz, Moses Browning, Jeremiah Wright and Amos Kendall founded what would become known as Green Township. In 1834 Green Township was divided into two sections: those living on the east side were transferred to what would become LaPorte Township while those living west of White River were re-established in what became Lafayette Township. On January 23, 1850, LaPorte incorporated as a village with a population of 350 people under its governance. On December 15 that year it voted to annex part of Vincennes to its boundaries; this annexation set off more than fifty years of conflict between La Porte and Vincennes over who controlled which section of town square (the current Old Town Square). The violence peaked in 1906 when vandals destroyed several stores in Vincennes during ethnic cleansing operations conducted by both towns' governments to remove Polish residents from their homes at gunpoint. (NOTE: This article does not cover events leading up to or following la porte incorporation) In 1861–1862 LaPorte served as capital of Wayne County; after being moved to Indianapolis during the Civil War it again served as the county seat from 1865 until 1870 when it was moved back to Lafayette due to growth in neighboring Jennings County. In 1893–1894 city officials decided that because Lafayette had outgrown its status as an agricultural center they should create an urban area within their limits that could house businesses and be called "La Porte." As development continued throughout history there has been occasional tension between villages/towns adjoining them – most recently with populations doubling or tripling only for no apparent reason – but overall cooperation has been good across municipal lines. Today many small businesses continue operating within la porte's borders despite some larger companies having relocated outside of town altogether due to competition from bigger cities or because they are located inside municipalities which offer better deals for employees benefits etc.; also many services available only within municipal boundaries such as zoning inspections are now done by staff members employed exclusively within municipally run departments rather then outsourced through third party inspectors like before

In 1814, La Porte was founded by Captain Pierre Lacourcey and his wife Marie-Hélène de la Vallière. The first post office was established in La Porte in 1816. In 1830, Corporal John Hance opened a store on the corner of State and Main Streets. In 1834, the LaPorte Post Office moved to its current location on First Street. The town's population grew rapidly during the early 1800s due to its lucrative lumber industry. By 1845, La Porte had over 100 inhabitants.During the 1870s and 1880s,LaPorte experienced rapid growth due to its position as a transportation hub for the surrounding region. By 1890, it had attained a population of 3000 people. During prohibition in America during the 1920s and 1930s,La Porte became one of the most lawless communities in Indiana. Throughout its history, LaPorte has been an important community both economically and socially. Its lumber industry continues to be one of its main sources of income today; as well as its role as a center for education and culture throughout much of central Indiana
The La Porte, Indiana community began as a small farming village in 1824. The town was named for General James M. LaPorte, a U.S. Army officer who fought in the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War. In 1854, the railroad arrived in La Porte and quickly made it a major transportation center. The town grew rapidly and by 1870 there were over 100 homes and businesses in the community. In 1916, La Porte became one of nine townships within what would become Elkhart County.
