Kokomo, Indiana is a town in Johnson County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Kokomo is the county seat of Johnson County. Kokomo was founded in 1853 by Jacob Appler and named for John C. Kokomoski, who had come from what is now southern Ontario, Canada to farm in this area. The first post office in Kokomo was established in 1855. In 1907-1908, the city of Kokomo merged with the unincorporated community of Westville to form a new city called Kokomo-Westville. The original name for the newly formed city may have been inspired by an event that took place on November 3rd 1907 when Mayor George Wicker and Alderman John Aiken were both elected as members of the Indianapolis Board of Trade; they were both residents of neighboring Westville which at that time also contained part of Kokomi Township. The current name for Kokomo (and its predecessor cities) comes about because it was platted on May 2nd 1913 by Jens Jensen and Frits Andersen as part of an attempt to rename all communities within Johnson County that had previously been given other names such as Carthage or Point Pleasant due to lack of consensus among local officials over what name would be most fitting for each community based on its unique characteristics and history. The town's growth can be traced back to its establishment as one small village near where two wagon train tracks crossed at what is now known as State Road 20th Street just east of Interstate 465 and west of US 71/72 exit 11A when this area was still part of Johnson County. The early residents consisted mainly of families who came down from central Illinois looking for land grants available during the period around 1851-1855 when Indiana became a U.S.-based country after becoming independent from Great Britain following his victory in the War Of 1812). By 1860 there were already several stores, schools and churches in operation while more than 50 people lived west side closer to I-465 which opened up shortly thereafter followed by similar growth east side towards US 71/72 exits 12A and 11B until settlement reached its current size including today’s core都在这里了
