In 1903, Atchison merged with his brother-in-law, Harry J. Smeaton, Jr., into Smeaton & Co., Incorporated (later renamed S&W Holsters). From 1903-1914, S&W Holsters produced a series of revolvers called "National Simulants." The National Simulants were designed to replicate the classic revolver designs of European manufacturers such as Browning and Remington. During World War II, Kokomo businesses were home to many patriotic endeavors such as manufacturing camouflage uniforms and supplying munitions to American forces stationed overseas. However, it was not until after the war that Kokomo businesses started producing firearms again. In 1948, Wm Hargrave & Sons opened their doors in Kokomo and began manufacturing firearms under the name "Hargrave". This venture led to Wm Hargrave Firearms being one of America's leading firearm manufacturers for over fifty years! Today, there are numerous noteworthy holster companies headquartered in Kokomo; some have been around since before World War II while others have only begun production recently.
