Kokomo, Indiana is a small town in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. Kokomo is part of the Kosciusko County seat and home to the Kokomo Army Depot, which is one of the largest military stores in America. Kokomo was founded in 1854 by white settlers as a cotton plantation town named Brownstown on the east side of what is now Interstate 65. The community grew rapidly after it became an important rail junction for trade with Illinois and Missouri during the early years of this century. The depot served as a major center for industry and commerce until its closure in 1957; since then, it has been used mainly for storage purposes. Today, Kokomo retains many historic buildings including the post office building (1901), Masonic Temple (1885), Baptist Church (1910), McAfee Hall School (1900), Izaak Walton League Supply Store (1890) and numerous other businesses and residences dating back to before its incorporation as a village in 1854 or even antecedent to it through pioneer times; these include several frame churches completed between 1907-1912 that are still standing today despite having been severely damaged by fire over time. The community began to grow rapidly due to its strategic location midway between Indianapolis and Chicago on two main routes passing through Kozyregan Township: one running north-south while another crossed into Kosciusko County from Union Township east of present day Kokomo Boulevard; both Routes provided easy access to goods necessary for agricultural production along with transportation links with adjacent counties located to the north such as Hendricks County and Delaware County - all making it extremely valuable economic property ripe for development throughout much of the 19th century especially given its rural setting combined with easily accessible resources like cotton fields, rivers, forests, lakes etc.; however, during some periods there were challenges faced primarily pertaining to increased competition from neighboring towns/cities who enjoyed better infrastructure facilities like schools/docks/roads etc., which led initially though annexation efforts becoming more serious resulting ultimately in most communities achieving township status by 1930s although some continue under this name until this day including Kokoma proper Incorporation Ceremony still taking place annually at Noontime inside Masonic Temple Parlor

It lies along the Kokomo River and is part of the Kokomo-Junction Area metropolitan Statistical area. Kokomo is home to Purdue University and the Kokomo Tribal Nation Casino. The town was founded in 1867 by George Wittek and his family. The Kokomo Golf Course opened in 1923 and became one of the first golf courses within Indiana to offer professional play. In 1954, it merged with nearby Westville Golf Club to form what is now known as Kokomo Country Club. In 1967, Kokomo-Junction Area was established when the towns of Westville and Kokomo amalgamated to form one municipality. The post office called "Kokomona" was established in 1867, but changed its name to "Kokomona" in 1923 because it favored an English pronunciation of "kokomone". In 1954, local businessman Elmer Hinkle donated land near present day Purdue University for use as a football field for that school's then new students and faculty members only; this gift has been named Hinkle Stadium after him. In 1968, both Eastside High School (now closed) and Northside High School were closed due to lack of enrollment which led to their closure also including what is now known as Southside Middle School (closed since 2007). This left only two high schools in the town - Central High School & Southside Junior/Senior High Schools which are now known as Central & Southside Middle Schools respectively. All three high schools remain open today despite not being able to enroll enough students so they can offer full course classes like other public schools do these days due primarily to low property values relative to other properties around town which have seen increased demand from families looking for smaller homes closer together while still having access to comprehensive education programs like those offered by larger cities or towns today!
