Kendallville is a town in Wayne County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis-Marion Metropolitan Statistical Area. Kendallville is located on the eastern edge of West Lafayette Township and has a three-mile (4 km) border with Butler Township. The first Europeans to visit Kendallville were French in 1712 when they set up a trading post on the creek that flows through town. In 1814, General Anthony Wayne's army invaded Indiana and encountered Indians near Kendallville; this led to the Battle of White River Bridge which resulted in the surrender of Indian Chief Black Hawk. This event helped solidify American control over what is now west-central Indiana. Kendallville was founded as a small rural village by John Witherspoon Maynard in 1825 after he removed his family from Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania to start anew in west central Indiana Territory under the auspices of Congressmen Peter Hensley and Daniel Webster. Kendallville developed as one of ten original townships organized by act of Congress on November 3, 1827 – one day before Indianapolis – within Lucas County. The township contained 588 residents when it was created and grew rapidly; by 1830 it had 11 stores, 10 blacksmiths and wallahs and had built two churches: One erected forMethodist Episcopal Minister Rev John Ladd (the first white pastor ever ordained in east centralIndiana) and dedicated on December 4th; another dedicated to St Joseph (the patron saint of agriculture), built by subscription soon after its creation; twelve days later James Kcyprian broke ground for what would become today's First Baptist Church cornerstone at Third Street & Elm Streets NW corner; eleven years later it became an electricty district with its own Board Of Trustees responsible for all aspectsof education within its boundaries In 1851 election Henderson J Darnell served as Mayoralty candidate against incumbent Isaac Nash who had been installed earlier that year as First Ward Alderman following victory over Nathanial Suggs in an open primary election won by vote fraudster Elijah Hickson (Hickson also ran for office as Prosecutor). Incumbent Nash lost to Darnell despite running unopposed due largely to his unpopularity with residents over taxes levied against them during previous term as Collector/Tax assessor having failed twice unsuccessfully to get any relief from then Governor Andrew Johnson who considered him "a mere tool" used chiefly by merchants1 Darnell continued as Mayor until 1865 when he retired due to ill health2 although he still retained some authority including veto power over ordinances passed by Council3 . He remains buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery there beside other notable citizens such as Mrs Rufus Seward4 ; Dr David Preble5 ; Judge George Mansell6 ; Dr Gideon Levy7 ; Mr Evan Forrester8 ; Edwin Sanger9 ; etc10 In 1870 Harrison Taylor served two terms consecutive nonconsecutive mayoralty terms after being unanimously elected unopposed

Kendallville is a small town in southwestern Indiana, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Wayne-Wabash metropolitan area. Kendallville was founded in 1836 by General John C. Frémont and his family as a trading post on the confluence of the White River and the Black River. In 1881, Kendallville became an incorporated village when it amalgamated with neighboring rural townships to form what is now Fort Wayne Township. In 1865, Kendallville was destroyed by a fire that burned for days in an effort to destroy all evidence of President Abraham Lincoln's assassination that had been stored there. The city rebuilt quickly and reached its peak population of about 20,000 in 1929 before declining gradually until 1990 when it reached its current size of 5,811 people. The first settler in Kendallville were two brothers named Levi and George Hinkle who arrived from Vermont around 1800. They built a log cabin on the west side of White River which they named "Hinkle's Ferry". In 1836, General John C. Frémont decided to establish a trading post near this location because he felt it would be more efficient to trade goods with local Indian tribes than going through Kentucky or Missouri where goods were often confiscated by federal authorities during the period of American Indian Removal policies which began in 1785 and continued until 1830s. The post operated continuously for six years before being taken over by Joshua Leduc who renamed it "Kendall" after his father-in-law, Captain Kendallshire (1753–1828) who served under Admiral George Washington on USS Constitution during the War for Independence. When Captain Kendallshire died young at age 43 in 1819 while serving aboard USS Constitution off Block Island though not related to Joshua Leduc himself, his son took up this name since he could not find another family member with whom to share this distinguished ancestry linkages under one roof like his father had done centuries earlier on USS Constitution during her previous career as captain under several different names including Thomas Kendallshire (1777–1845), Samuel Leduc (1779–1839), Isaac Brockway(1783–1861), James Purdy(1800–1859) and finally Israel Putnam(1792–1869). This innovative naming scheme lasted until 1840 when Captains Kingsbury (1800–1841) and Hammond (1802–1876) changed all active ships’ surnames back to their fathers’ original surnames once they assumed command following retirement from military service although some exceptions such as Commodore Robert Fulton (17601812) kept their original last name even after becoming Naval Commander Ulysses S Grant’s Secretary at Sea later that year – something only Presidents have ever been able to do! Kendallville was founded in 1814 by the brothers Elijah and John Kendall. The town was named for John Kendall, who had married an Englishwoman, Susannah White. It grew rapidly after loggers discovered the rich woods near its location. By 1827, Kendallville had a population of over 100 people. The first post office opened in 1828. In 1851, the town became a county seat and continued to grow until it reached its current size of over 10,000 people in 1970.
