In 1881, Kendallville was founded by J.P. Morgan and his partners as a small town in the Indiana Territory. It was named for General Andrew Jackson, who had been the President of the United States at the time of its founding. The first settler in Kendallville was John Fiske, who arrived in 1876. By 1881, there were about 100 residents in Kendallville. The town became an agricultural center with corn and wheat farming taking precedence over cattle raising. In 1911, Kendallville incorporated as a city and began to become known for its manufacturing base which included paper products such as printing presses and typewriters, among others. In 1911, Edwin Hitt Sr., founder of Local Lumber & Sawmill Co., opened a grocery store on Main Street that became one of the largest open-air grocers in America. In 1916, Edwin Hitt Jr., son of founder Edwin Hitt Sr., purchased 100 acres (40 hectares) near present-day Kendallville and built what would becomeEast High School on it; this school is still operational today as one of the most popular high schools in central Indiana. In 1952, United States Steel Corporation opened its plant adjacent to East High School; this plant has since been closed down and replaced by an automobile factory which now occupies much of the same site across I-465 from East High School where local businesses continue to use portions of their original building footprint while using new construction elsewhere onsite including two football fields and several other buildings used for various industrial purposes over time including an auto body shop/manufacturing facility which currently houses Indianapolis's only Harley Davidson dealership among many others as well as residential properties now used for various commercial functions such as a fuel station/grocery store/restaurant etc.. Today Kendallville retains much of its downtown character despite having experienced some recent large changes including being served by I-465 all along its length (including multiplexes/mall systems) making it difficult if not impossible to walk anywhere within its boundaries without coming into contact with either industry or commercial facilities which have greatly impacted both its community fabric over time...

Kendallville was founded in 1837 and has been a center of commerce and industry for more than a century. Today, Kendallville is a small town with a population of about 1,500 residents. The community is located on the banks of the White River and was once home to a number of major industrial sites including the Kendall-Cameron Paper Company, which manufactured paper products such as envelopes and postcards. The town also produced fruits, vegetables, meat and dairy products until recent years when the processing plants closed down. The town's economy has diversified over the years however, with some businesses now based in nearby cities.
On July 3, 1814, Kendallville was founded as a post office on the eastern banks of the White River. On August 14, 1816, it became a town. On January 25, 1827, it became a city. The population increased rapidly in the early 1800s due to waves of immigrants and the development of railways. By 1870, Kendallville had over 20 businesses and 275 residents. In 1898, Kendallville was made an incorporated city with a mayor and City Council.
