The name "Kendallville" was chosen because it seemed like one word with many different implications - hideaway for hunters and travelers on horseback during times of peace or outpost during war; stopover on their journey back and forth between two important settlements on the Ohio River; place where traders could meet to buy goods before moving them upriver to larger markets farther east. Kendallville grew rapidly after being founded and soon became an important transportation hub on the Terre Haute–New Albany Trail system connecting central Illinois with Kentucky and beyond. By 1871, Kendallville had become one of the leading small towns in America due to its location at the crossroads of two major railroads. In 1880, local entrepreneur Isaac Weitzel donated land near present-day downtown for what would become WSRF Radio Corporation (later NBC). Over time, Kendallville has undergone numerous civic and cultural changes that have helped make it an exciting community unto itself – including becoming home to both the Indianapolis 500 Speedway (now known as IMS Stadium) and the Indiana State Fairgrounds (now known as Lucas Oil Stadium).
