The plant would produce up to 100 megawatts of electricity until 1998 when it was closed down due to environmental concerns about nepotism at GE and lack of competition from other companies. The town has several sites significant within its history: Battle Ground National Battlefield (1814-1815), Townsite (1836), Arsenal Factory (1860), and Central School (1910). Today, Kendallville is home to many businesses including KFC, JCPenney, Sears Roebuck & Co., Ford Motor Company, Verizon Fios/Time Warner Cable/ Comcast Xfinity/ AT&T U-verse GameStop/. The downtown area has been renovated numerous times over the years and contains several large commercial buildings such as The White House Coffee House which opened in 2006 and seats 150 people inside an old white house on Main Street which also served as an early movie theater. There are also smaller restaurants throughout Downtown that serve local cuisine such as Chinese Takeout ($) or Italian Pizza ($)

On July 4th of that year—1542 A D.—Francisco Vásquez de Coronado died during his journey through New Mexico! This event marked the beginning of Spanish colonization in North America!! In 1607–1609 English settlers arrived in Jamestown colony on Virginia’s Eastern Shore; they called this area Virginia Colony because their settlements were located near present-day Hampton Roads area! These English colonists constructed Fort William Henry at James Island/Norfolk County in 1607 A D.; this fort served as a military post against French forces operating along the Chesapeake Bay! In 1611 AD Dutch colonists arrived at Cape May island off Delaware; they named this island Maryland because their settlement lay adjacent to Prince George’s County/Maryland!!! In 1776–1777 British soldiers under General George Washington crossed over into Pennsylvania during the American Revolution; these British troops call this region Pennsylvania Province!!! After several skirmishes during which both sides suffered heavy losses,,,, General Marquis de Lafayette led a force numbering some 25000 Frenchmen into battle against General Cornwallis at Yorktown Heights on October 19th eighteenth 1814!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Battle of Yorktown ended with Cornwallis surrendering!!!!!!!!! After this victory over Cornwallis,,,,,,,,,,,, General Lafayette returned home!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In 1818, Kendallville was platted and became the county seat of Wayne County. The town’s first post office was established in 1827. In 1834, the Indiana General Assembly passed a bill authorizing the erection of a courthouse in Kendallville. The cornerstone for the new courthouse was laid on July 4, 1835, and it opened its doors to business on October 1, 1835. The county seat moved from Kendallville to Terre Haute in 1911.
