Kendallville, Indiana is home to the world’s largest gun show, the Indianapolis International Auto Show. The event took place annually from 1965-2002 and has been a major source of firearms sales for dealers in the area. In 1916, Beaumont formed a company with his brother-in-law Harry Weems entitled “Weems & Beaumont Firearms Corporation” which soon became one of the leading firearms stores in America due to its products and customer service. In 1923, John Beaumont Sr., died leaving his sons John Jr., Harry Weems III and Howard Weems sole proprietors of The Gunsmith Shop which continued trading until it closed its doors for good on January 6th, 1984 following a fire that destroyed all but one floor of the building! During World War II American soldiers were required to wear uniforms so they could not purchase firearms online or from foreign sellers without prior authorization from their commanding officer(s). Kendallville is located on the east side of Porter County and is bordered by Nobles Township to the north, Union Township to the west, and Weldon Township to the south. The first settlers in Kendallville were Andrew Cushman and his family who immigrated from Scotland in 1795. They built a log cabin near what is now downtown Kendallville in 1798-99. In 1802, they bought land from John Hendrickson for $10 per acre (equivalent to ). In 1806, they erected a two-story wooden schoolhouse which served as the community's government center until it burned down in 1872. In 1865, David Kapp donated 4 acres (2 ha) of his farmstead known as "Kapp's Landing" to be used as a township seat; also that year, he became one of its first trustees. The first election held in Kendallville was on November 3rd, 1865 when James Mayo ran for township trustee against incumbent John Smedley Jr.. On September 12th 1870 Samuel Henshaw organized a Methodist church at what is now East Main Street and First Avenue downtown; it was called "Henshaw's Chapel." In 1876–77 during the American Civil War there was an encampment of Confederate soldiers camped around where First Avenue Now stands - this particular encampment or unit later became known as "The Kelly Boys". In 1898–99 both Seton Halls Preparatory School (now Seton Hall University) and Our Lady Of Loretto Catholic School were established within city limits for students attending communities outside Porter County (). On May 8th 1902 Mayor Thomas Hickey proposed that new streets be planned through what are now Third Street South and Eighth Avenue North – these proposals went into effect as "The Streets Project." At this time much of downtown Kendallville consisted of open prairie with few buildings other than some frame homes built before 1920s or 1930s. Over time many businesses have been added including an IGA grocery store opened in 1951 followed by JCPenney & Co., Dick's Sporting Goods chain opening their stores here beginning 1964; Zanes Jewelers opened their original location on Second Street South soon after; Stroudsburg Rockets basketball team playing home games here through 1984 before moving away to Conshohocken Stadium near Philadelphia ; local fire company No. 2 being founded circa 1910 and currently headquartered on West Main Street just east of Third street south.; Amongst others major employers have included: Ford Motor Company making their largest manufacturing operation in town here starting 1948 with assistance from local employees who worked at Dearborn Assembly Plant adjacent thereto until 1981; among others minority owned businesses include African American Owned Restaurant And Brewery which operated since 1978 nor has any housing been built since then except for single family dwellings scattered about townscape . Downtown business districts currently include: Shaw’s Department Store Complex occupying most eastern half of block bounded by Fourth Street North/South/Third Avenue West/Eighth Avenue North – anchored by iconic Perkins Chevrolet dealership dating back over 100 years natively operated by DeLorme Bros.; several high- end residences situated along Sixth Ave./ Seventh Ave./ Eighth Ave.: numerous smaller retailers supporting various industries within walking distance including Michaels Drugstore / Gamestop / Ace Hardware / etc.; large Pharmacy anchors mall across street
